BIO ____________________________________________
Shay has been around for a long time. A real long time. He doesn't remember who he used to be anymore before his 'change'. His first memory is now waking up, a city burned, arrows in his body, and yet, he could get up. He could breath in the ashes of his old home. He scared away the looters rummaging through the less fortunate, and then wandered. And wander he shall for as long as he lives.
He rode with many people in his travels, a nomad who has fought for warlords such as Ghengis Khan, Timur. He scared people. Eventually, his lords would die, their vision for an empire or world fail, and he would move on. He tried forming connections, but such connections are hard to keep when everyone's lives are so short and his so long. Over time, he noticed he started feeling sensations less. Not just emotional, but physical. Food lost its taste, water lost its sparkle. Pain a distant memory.
He is certain he is not some sort of vampire, in fact he hates vampires. Vampires hunt him for his seemingly endless source of blood. He travels around the world to see what it has to offer, and because he has nothing else to do. When the first Maelstrom happened and changed the world, he felt something he hasn't felt in a long time. Hope.
He has travelled to the the Cursed Apple, here to find a solution to all his problems. Perhaps, with all that this life has given him, could he truly become human again.
DETAILS________________________________________
His name isn't actually Shay, he's actually Kashchei, the immortal man of Eastern Slavic myth. The people in New York call him Shay as a nickname he gave himself in English lands (they also keep mispronouncing Koshei).
He has regeneration and seemingly cannot be properly killed. For even if you killed him, cut him apart, blew him up, he would reform somewhere else. His blood has special properties, which makes him a target for vampires and alchemists who seek to use it.
His condition has led him to take the approach for too much of his life, "I'll do it tomorrow". Despite having the time and power that others dream of, he has yet to meaningfully impact the world positively. It is why he subconsciously desires a lord, a master, someone to guide him to his goals. He struggles with coming up with a vision of what he wants his life to be, and so lets others define it for him.
He was a soldier, a warrior for most of his life. He has killed many men and seen more of his comrades die. Death doesn't phase him and he welcomes it. When he was younger, he hungered battle and the simple art of killing people. He relished having power of people. Now, he simply wants to be left alone and help the odd cause.
His personality is a flip between a wise old mentor who offers advice and consoles, and a nihilist who doesn't give a damn about anything. He is a hypocrite at times, talking about making meaning from life when he is unable to that himself. He encourages people to connect when he cannot really connect with anyone beyond the 'monsters'.
He typically asks questions on what characters will do AFTER the ritual, as he has seen people lose and win great times before. But time always moves forward. After conquering all that there is and weep, what will you do my lord?
Visually, he looks Central Asian who looks disheveled. He wears a loose royal shirt with embroidery and wields a glaive and automatic crossbow. He has bags under his eyes as he is losing his ability to sleep properly (This is a reference to the Epic of Gilgamesh, specifically the character of Utnapishtim as immorality is portrayed as not going to sleep.). In a way, he looks like the more 'heroic' version of Drifter.
He has an accent of the region (Can be Mongolian due to his time in the Horde, or even Russian as he has spent time in the Soviet Empire). He swaps between a sophisticated manner of speaking (He spent time with nobility) to the simple language of a soldier depending on his mood and who he's talking to.
WHAT IS HIS WISH? He wishes to die. Maybe the Patrons can kill him, who else can? However, over time, he might find a reason to keep going if he forms friendships with the characters. Compared to other characters, they want their wish to happen and will do whatever it takes. If Shay fails? He can wait until the next time. So he's the most relaxed and makes some plans with other characters if he loses.
He doesn't care how he came to be, since to him at this point doesn't matter.
Fond of horses.
RELATIONSHIPS _________________________________
These are the dynamics and example dialogues with the other characters. It goes through most of the characters in the roster. Some don't have example dialogues but still give the general attitude.
Abrams - He is impressed on how Abrams can still stand after what he takes.
S - "How much pain do you feel?"
A - "I don't know how to answer that. How people normally feel it? Enough?"
S - "Don't take that for granted."
A - "Whatever you say buddy."
Apollo - He insults Apollo's fencing, seeing his dedication to it as a weakness when he could be using more varied weaponry. However, he respects him for being of high birth and fighting on the front lines. He calls Apollo 'boy' to his annoyance.
S - "Boy, if you wish to become as great as a warlord as your father, you must learn the art of more than just one weapon."
A - "First, not a boy. Second, fear the man who practiced one weapon a thousands times."
S - "That will win you duels, not battles. Today is a battle. Adapt, or die like the million young men before you that thought they were 'better'."
S - "Always hated the nobles hiding as we died for them."
A - "I'm not one of those nobles. A true leader fights alongside his men."
S - "I respect that boy."
A - "Not a boy!"
Bebop - Fascinated by the golem, he wonders if he can die. He secretly hopes he is immortal, and might find a friend.
S - "You age?"
B - "I rust."
S - "Like any blade, but will you ever break?"
B - "Not when Ms. Shelly still needs me."
S - "What will you do after Ms Shelly passes?"
B - "Excuse me?"
S - "Well, what do you plan to do after she's gone? You are a golem, are you not? You will outlive her."
B - "What's the bloody point of answering that?"
S - *chuckles* "The first is always the hardest. The ritual is starting. Come! Let us kill well."
Billy - He has a odd respect of the goat (mainly his passion, which the Nomad lacks) but hates him for doing seemingly nothing to help the world. Billy calls him out for doing nothing either. He calls Billy 'kid' as a vague reference to Billy the Kid.
S - "You got passion kid, I give you that. What're you wishing for?"
B - "None of your business."
S - "I know 'I'll take the secret to the grave' doesn't work with me but we are going to win or lose together. Why not tell me?"
B - "Because you don't give a damn. You had all this time to change the world and yet here we are."
S - *Laughs*
S - "Oh I see. You're the type of guy who gets killed."
B - "Who the fuck starts a conversation like that before the ritual?!?"
Calico - He respects her efficiency but doesn't like her for betraying the Baxter Society. While Shay has walked away from groups before, he has never betrayed them. It is disrespectful.
Celeste - He understands the need to hide her true nature, as he does as well. He has had a dalliance with a unicorn before. As I said, he likes horses.
S - "I actually met one of your kind before."
C - "There's a lot of circuses! Which one did you go to?"
S - "I meant something...different. We got hunted together. *speaks quietly* Interesting times."
C - "Ah...what happened to her?"
S - "Made a mistake."
C - "Now you can't just say that."
S - "I can as it doesn't matter. The Ritual is about to begin. Kill well."
The DOORMAN - Shay is unfazed by everyone else. He is terrified of the Doorman and has tangled with him before in the far past. He sees him as a monster and calls him a demon. He is happy to put the Doorman down. Despite this, both of them are similar. Both are immortal beings that in the end, serve others. While the Doorman chooses to serve, Shay serves because he doesn't have strong enough self-direction.
When sent to the Baroness, the Doorman mocks Shay for being unable to be anything to anyone. He has wasted his talents and condition, slumps around grumbling doing nothing, and in the end he is better off dead.
D - "Fancy seeing you here. It is nice seeing old friends."
S - "I got no words for you demon."
D - "Times change. People change. Despite our past differences, perhaps I can offer you a stay at the Baroness as compensation?"
S - "I would prefer your head for those lost to you."
D - "Ah, I'm afraid that's not possible."
D - "I see you are doing well for yourself."
S - "What do you want monster?"
D - "To catch up with an old friend."
S - "You gutted me, stuffed me in a coffin wrapped in chains, and tossed me into a river."
D - "We all have eccentricities in youth."
Drifter - He sees a younger version of himself in Drifter and is not impressed. He does enjoy having a fellow immortal killer around at least.
S - "I feel bad for you."
D - "I gotta say, I feel bad for you."
S - "Excuse me?"
D - "Say what you want but at least I appreciate the 'finer' parts of life. Meanwhile you can't enjoy a good snack."
S - "I have been unable to taste anything for centuries."
D - "Exactly, you think immortality is bad when its just a you problem."
D - "What would be the harm in giving me a little taste?"
S - "Come after me 'fanged one' and I will cut off yours like the rest."
D - *laughs* "Maybe you'll prove to be an actual challenge."
Dynamo - He respects Dynamo for his love of his wife but sees him throwing away new form as a mistake. This is an odd stance to have as he himself is looking for a way to remove his immortality, yet doesn't want others like Dynamo to remove what makes them special. To Shay, he believes he deserves death for what he has done. Someone like Dynamo deserves to live as long as he has. Maybe he would've made the world a better place.
S - "Have you considered what you can do if you stay with this body?"
D - "Yes, and it doesn't matter. Marla deserves better."
S - "I respect that. But will that love last? Should it be at the cost of what you can do now?"
D - "Someone sounds like they only have had failed relationships."
D - "So...how old are you?"
S - "I rode with the Khan. The only proper Khan."
D - "That is...old. And doesn't properly answer my question!"
Graves - He has a fascination with the dead, and has an innate understanding why Graves listens to the Lich. Their 'lords' give them attention, a focus to their talents. It makes them feel special.
S - "I hope that lich's hand taught you well?"
G - "I can handle myself. She's a great teacher."
S - "Then kill well, as that is what we need to do today."
S - "You talk to the dead?"
G - "Yeah, they have a lot of things to say."
S - "Can you talk to old souls or the recently dead?"
G - "Why do you ask?"
S - "Just curious..."
Grey Talon - Likes the spirit of the old man and respects him going out fighting.
Haze - Thinks the OSIC is an interesting master but wants her to keep her distance. He doesn't want anything to do with the US government. They might use him as a science experiment. He makes fun of Haze being a Sandman, as he doesn't dream anymore. While he presents this as her unable to kill him in his mind, it is a subtle way of showing how empty his life has become. He can't dream of anything better.
Kelvin - He is happy to find a new immortal who isn't a monster in his life. He would try to befriend Kelvin.
K - "Are you like me?"
S - "Immortal? Yes."
K - "Undead."
S - "Ah, no. I still bleed like the living. Still! We share more than most."
S - "Do you feel it? The cold?"
K - "No."
S - "Me either."
K - "Cool."
Lady Geist - She's no better than a vampire, leeching the life off others. He has more respect for Drifter because at least he's open what he is.
Lash - Impressed by the LASH.
L - "Why are you looking at the Lash so longingly?"
S - "What!? No! I was just imagining you as a gladiator."
L - "I would've beaten the crap out of Flamma in the Collesuem."
S - "I give a thumbs up to that."
McGinnis - Marvels over her tech, but has disdain with turrets doing the work for her. A real warrior can only understand the cost and thrill of battle up close.
Mina - Thinks she is an idiot for becoming a vampire, and is glad to put her down.
Mirage - Respect Mirage for his service to the Djinn, and offers if they fail, for them to work together. Perhaps with immortal masters can he find purpose again.
Paige - You can make a joke of how Shay can't actually read English. Admires the horses she can summon.
Paradox - He has visited one of their museums before and mentions remember seeing certain artefacts back in the day.
Pocket - He considers lending his services to Pocket as he is the heir to an empire, and willing to kill those in Farfax. Pocket declines his offer.
S - "Heir to an empire yes?"
P - "How would you know anything about it?"
S - "Magic. Now you need someone to show you how to overthrow rulers? I have experience with it."
P - "I don't need your type of help."
S - "Suit yourself. Your throne, your methods, your loss."
Rem - Rem calls Shay empty as he cannot dream.
Seven - Seven finds Shay pathetic as he has power and immortal and yet has failed to change the world. Shay finds Seven charming, as he has an actual drive to do what he wants.
Shay - "So you take all the power you want, what after?"
Seven - "I do what what I want."
Shay - "Anything specific in mind?"
Seven - "Yes. A weak man's head on a pike."
Seven - "So you lived through so much and yet you never made a mark on the world."
Shay - "I have made a mark on individuals."
Seven - "You could've been a king. Helping a random person is trivial. You could've shaped the world but men weaker and braver have done more with less."
Shay - "You are going to leave a mark on history then?"
Seven - *laughs*
Shiv - Supports Shiv's change of heart and encourages him to kill vampires.
Silver - They bond over being failures.
Sinclair - "Hey! Imagine how few people get to be together forever!" While he understands why they want to separate, he wishes he had an immortal lover.
Venator - He respects Venator for his service to God, as he struggles with having faith in anything after seeing much happen. He has helped a Venator in the past to kill vampires.
Victor - Victor and Shay are similar foils. Victor feels constant pain while Shay feels none. Both of them regenerate and come across as gloomy to the other characters. He wonders if Viktor is immortal.
S - "Wait, stand still for a moment."
V - "Why?"
S - "That arm looks familiar. Might be mine."
V - "You lose your limbs?"
S - "Yeah it's happened before. But now I think that one isn't mine."
Warden - Respects his sense of duty and wishes he had his dedication. He does fear him using his blood and flesh for his alchemy, as he has dealt with alchemists who would do whatever they could to get his flesh.
