Karma: The Dragon of Wrath
~Disclaimer~ I haven't played the game long enough to understand the intricacies of game balance. I may update this post with edits over time. (my memory is shit)
If the Hero is too strong or too weak, any constructive criticism is welcome. Also, if there are any ideas listed below that seem familiar to other hero ideas forum members have made, they are purely coincidental, as I have hardly read any other ideas prior to creating this.

~Character Goal~ To create a martial arts themed hero idea for Deadlock inspired by anime, martial arts flicks, and my love for fighting games.

~Backstory~

For generations, shaolin monks hailed from "The Hidden Lotus"
(AN: Name pending???) were often locally praised as unsung heroes within the remote areas of Tibet, as their clandestine arts of mysticism and discipline have been fruitful in pacifying or outright redeeming the monsters of the world who were more of a harm to themselves. However, for those that have crossed the point of no return, the Lotus was known to form an elite cabal of warriors within their ranks to eliminate them.

Many of Karma's ilk were thoroughly conditioned to act as machines of war against supernatural dangers, despite the Lotus' teachings of peace. Unlike most of his peers, Karma's strength and potential as a warrior greatly exceeded his masters' expectations. Seeing this as a dark omen or possession of malign spirits before birth, the Hidden Lotus' council were wary enough to exile him from their ranks to survive off the lay of the land. Despite their decision, it ended up being one that unintentionally saved his life: With their latest champion banished, many vengeful monsters and criminals alike scattered across Asia were spurred on with bloodthirsty fervor, leading to the sacking of The Hidden Lotus monastery -- A great and bloody ambush that Lotus were unprepared for in time.

Over a year and a half has passed since the monk returned to the place of his birth in ruins. It was then he learned a lesson in tragedy, yet it only served to embolden a wrathful power that grew in his soul. Making a personal vow, Karma ventured to travel beyond the borders of his homeland as a vigilante, serving to protect the weak and defenseless. In his time working as a hard laborer in America, it is through the knowledge of the Patrons that he can hope to use their gifts to restore the Hidden Lotus to its former glory.

~Weapon~

Weapon(s) Name: Forbidden Power - Karma's mighty fists (Medium Range, Heavy Hitter, Projectile). 1.75 bullets per second, spirit type ammo(?).
Primary Fire: Karma throws chi blasts from his palms.
Secondary Fire: Karma punches the ground, releasing a crescent wave of energy screeching across the floor. Not as powerful as his primary but explodes in a small AOE on contact that can deal with groups of troopers effectively.
Light Melee animation: A series of punches, kicks, palm and/or elbow strikes.
Heavy Melee animation: Spinning wind kick. Comes into contact with an enemy hero's jaw in a satisfying fashion. If you've ever watched a JCVD action movie, then you probably already know what this looks like.

~Abilities~

In Hand-to-Hand Stance
(name also pending?):

1) Decisive Strikes: A multi-phase ability that has Karma dashing forward to strike at his opponent for each consecutive button press. The dash stops when coming into contact with the world, an NPC, or enemy hero, as Karma bounces back a tiny bit. Like Shiv's Slice & Dice, this ability can be used as a psuedo-omnidirectional dash, can be performed three times by default with each stock available, and can also be performed in mid-air (AN: In fighting game terms, this functions similarly to a Rekka, or a special move that is manually executed that will continue as long as more inputs of its command is registered).
Tier 1: -Cooldown reduction.
Tier 2: +Dash range, +Damage
Tier 3: +2 Charges. Final hit of Decisive Strikes will stun the target for 0.9 seconds.

2) Iron Mountain: Karma takes a step forward, twists himself around, and smashes his broad back against his opponent as he takes on a firm stance, not only dealing damage to the target, but also causing a gust of energy to blast through his target, dealing spirit damage in an AOE cone behind them.
Tier 1: +AOE Range and width increase.
Tier 2: +Impact damage for both target and any enemy hero behind them.
Tier 3: -Cooldown reduction by 2 seconds for enemy hero hit (0.5 for non-hero), with maximum of 8 secs.

3) Dragon Tail Sweep: Karma summons a spectral guandao in his hands, sending a crashing wave of chi energy in a full 360 degree arc around him. Performing this move in mid-air tilts the wave of chi energy in a diagonal arc. Enemy heroes hit with this ability suffer DoT after the initial hit. This ability directly transitions into Karma's Chi Blade Stance.
Tier 1: +Damage and 1.5m radius increase.
Tier 2: Direct hit to enemy hero also applies Slow effect for 3 seconds.
Tier 3: All negative effects apply to 2 additional enemy heroes that suffer a direct hit.

In Chi Blade Stance:

Primary Fire: (Medium Range, Heavy Hitter)
Each swing of this weapon fires of a crescent wave that deals significant damage. Rate of fire is slow, even by comparison to the rate of fire of other heroes in the game.
Secondary Fire: None. Generic zoom-in effect.
Light Melee animation: Karma slashes with the guandao in long, sweeping arcs.
Heavy Melee animation: Karma lunges in to impale his opponent. Sort of resembles a Superman punch.

1) Lightning from Heaven: Karma throws his spectral guandao, creating a explosive AOE shockwave effect upon the blade landing. Enemy heroes within its radius suffering a blow will have an eerie Lotus Mark attached to them that can be seen through walls.
Tier 1: +1 Charge.
Tier 2: All enemy NPCs and heroes caught in explosion radius will have spirit DoT for 3 seconds.
Tier 3: Reduced cooldown by 9 seconds if the first enemy hero directly hit with the guandao (not the explosion radius) suffers a direct hit. Damage scales with spirit power.

2) Dragon Rend: Karma lunges forward with his guandao brandished, dealing damage to all enemies caught in his wake. Removes Lotus Mark and earns heal-over-time effect, while also refreshing the Dragon Rend ability.
Tier 1: -Cooldown reduction.
Tier 2: +Damage increase, expanding hitbox radius of ability.
Tier 3: Refresh Lightning from Heaven ability cooldown on direct hit with first enemy hero from behind.

3) Pole-vault Kick: Karma uses the momentum from a pole-vault maneuver to land a drop kick on his opponent, dissipating the spectral guandao and directly transitions into Hand-to-Hand Stance afterwards. Hold the jump button during the animation of the pole-vault to launch Karma high up into the air, instead of dealing direct damage forward. Direct damage stuns enemy heroes for 0.9 seconds.
Tier 1: -Cooldown reduction.
Tier 2: +Jump height/lunge distance increase.
Tier 3: +0.9 stun duration increase.

~Ultimate: Karmic Retribution~


Karma floats into the air in a lotus meditative stance, creating an AoE effect around him. If the first enemy hero within its radius tries to hit him with any ability, including an ultimate, the monk automatically parries the attempt, teleporting behind them instantly and destroys 60% of their health bar if their health is at 90% health or above, regardless of the enemy hero's total amount of health, or any buffs that may defend them from this attack. If the enemy hero's health is below 90% when Karma is in Hand-to-Hand Stance, this attack knocks the hero down for 0.8 seconds and applies the effects of the Cursed Relic debuff for 8 seconds afterwards. The effects of Divine Retribution stay the same no matter what stance Karma may be in.
Tier 1: 8m Radius increase and Cursed Relic debuff effects applied to one additional enemy hero.
Tier 2: Removes Unstoppable buff from enemy heroes affected by Karma's Ultimate.
Tier 3: Removes any Ultimate buff from enemy heroes affected by Karma's Ultimate.

~((Optional Idea)) Ultimate Passive: Wrath of the Dragon~

When Karma's ultimate is unlocked, damaging at least one enemy hero with Karmic Retribution enables Wrath of the Dragon. This is visually indicated on the HUD by a draconic eye literally awakening next to Karma's health bar. In this state, an aura of flame surrounds Karma's eyes and body, temporarily gaining reduced cooldowns on all his abilities, movement speed increase, and special properties on his primary fire, secondary fire, as well as other abilities:

Hand-to-Hand Primary Fire: Turns into a hit-scan laser beam, increasing the damage dealt.
Hand-to-Hand Secondary Fire: Punches the earth, sending a geyser of flame forth, greatly increasing the range in an upward arc.

Chi Blade Primary Fire: Increases the width, range and damage.
Chi Blade Secondary Fire: Unlocks Obliterate, allowing Karma to hit his opponent 5 times every two seconds. The visual effect summons small spectral dragon heads each time it procs.

Decisive Strikes: Gain +2 charges, dealing increased spirit damage. Final hit of Decisive Strikes triggers a special animation that has Karma grappling his opponent and tossing them back down to Earth. This also affects airborne enemies, with a spectacular shockwave effect that damages all enemies in an AOE circle caught in its radius.
Iron Mountain: Knocks enemy heroes back 10m after successful direct hit. This also has a stunning effect on airborne opponents for 1 second.
Dragon Tail Sweep: Triggers twice, significantly increasing the range of the 360 wave and passes through walls. The damage on each wave is reduced depending on how many meters it travels.
Lightning from Heaven: Throws two spears at once. Triggers at least one Lotus Mark for one enemy hero caught in the blast radius. All others have damage dealt as normal. Creates sound effect of a draconic screech, changing the VFX as well to something more fiery and impactful.
Dragon Rend: Significantly increases the range of the dash and heal-over-time effect. Enemies suffer DoT damage included. Refreshes the Lotus Mark effect at least once when attacking an enemy hero from behind. Creates a huge visual effect of a dragon's head when cast, complete with a draconic roar.
Pole-vault Kick: Significantly increases the range, damage, and causes a knockdown effect on direct hit. Refreshes the cooldown of this ability after a successful direct hit.

VFX/SFX also change on all abilities as well. Think something more fiery, and filled with draconic imagery.

~Ultimate: Karmic Retribution (REWORK)~
(AN: I realize in hindsight this ultimate's damage potential is far too strong, lmao...)

Karma floats into the air in a lotus meditative stance, creating an AoE effect around him. Karma and his allied heroes earn passive healing over time, as they are affected by healing flames that caress their skin. In this state, Karma's movement speed is hindered as he slowly moves around the map. If the first enemy hero within its radius tries to hit him with any ability (including another ultimate), the healing effect is cancelled, Karma automatically parries the enemy's attack if they are within the effective range of the AoE, teleporting to them instantly and deals an amount of damage calculated by adding up the enemy hero's total health in comparison with Karma's spirit power and then multiplying the formula by a factor of... let's say 5 (AN: Pending rework?). This damage is dealt regardless of the enemy hero's total amount of health, or any buffs that may defend them from this attack. If the enemy hero's health is below 90% when Karma is in either Hand-to-Hand Stance or Chi Blade Stance, this attack knocks the hero down for 0.8 seconds and applies the effects of the Cursed Relic debuff for 8 seconds afterwards.
