Hero Concept : Gimlet, the Scrapyard Tinkerer - One-Eyed, Scrappy, Mech-Suit

Introduction : Gimlet is a highly sentient and intelligent juvenile Cyclops who was abandoned in the scrapyard right by the New York port. It learned how to survive by scrapping by and tinkering with scraps around it and selling them to the underground market. It looks up to McGinnis and Ms. Shelly and wants to do the ritual so it can work for Fairfax to sell its scrappy inventions.

Preface - First post here. Been an avid follower of Icefrog since the Playdota days. I have made and shared multiple hero suggestions using Warcraft III assets ( o7 ) and was there to see Puck being implemented. Since learning about Citadel along with IceFrog leading the way to a new Valve game, I've been following the development closely and happy to be part of this development the same way I've been following Dota2's back in the days (the weekly Cyborgmatt updates were pure dopamine).

With the release of Rem and tunnels, many including myself have been cooking hero ideas that can utilize the hero size and the new way to move around the map. Here is my idea. I want to add I do not have digital art skills, hence the random Paint mock-up. I'll add more details on the design I have in mind (if you are interested) below the image.

Basically, Gimlet is a Rem sized hero that can mount his mech suit (which increases his size, add bonuses but loses its ability to use the tunnels) and dismount freely, while having slight differences to its gameplay depending on whether it is mounted or not. The skills are (sorry for keep using the word) scrappy, and its gameplay is to roam around the map, planting fake boxes (mariokart), lauching rockets that gives him verticallity (TF2), and using his ult to initiate teamfights or denying chokepoints like Midboss or pushes). Ideally, it would look less like Mike Wazowski from Monster's Inc but more rugged and orcish and dresses up like a scrapyard version of McGinnis. Numbers are default. Its weapon's name is Boush Whack, with an alt fire similar to OW Roadhog.

Gimlet's 1st skill is Mount Gauntlet. Gauntlet is a mech suit (kinda like those in Avatar, but much scrappier). It has a big fist on one hand, and a gun with higher ammo capacity on the other). Initially I wanted this skill to work similarly to Metamorphosis (Dota2 Terrorblade), but decided to make it more melee focused similar to Silver's wolf form. Since it is a 'basic skill', it needed some disadvantages, hence it has less movement speed and air-control, and can no longer do the rocket jump.

The 2nd skill, Jet Rocket, is a mix of TF2's Soldier rocket launcher, and it being homing like Dota2's Tinker (RIP). This gives unmounted Gimlet a way to move around and make plays around the map. While Mounted, it is used more offensively. Visually the rocket would be strapped around Gimlet, while by the shoulder on Gauntlet

The 3rd skill, Scrap Trap, is cheeky and tactical. With the ability to roam around the map while unmounted, Gimlet can run towards the back of enemy lines and plant fake boxes. It can also be used in lane to deal AoE damage, can be destroyed by both sides, and if used while mounted, melee-ing it deals great damage. Since Gimlet grew up in the scrapyard, I wanted to give it an additional advantage when breaking boxes (breakables) and decided a soul advantage along with CDR for this skill. The downside to this is that it requires a channeling time and the enemy can hear it when planting it nearby.

Finally there is Scrapnel, the ultimate that is an area denying skill. It has 2 different playstyles. While unmounted, it can be thrown over an area before it's dispersed within the area, and when used while mounted, it disperses evenly around Gauntlet instead. Generally it works similar to Ziggs from LoL, but more randomized, allowing it to potential stack. You'll notice that each skill also has a way to disperse pellets, allowing Gimlet to truly shine in closed areas of the map and being annoyingly scrappy.

Thanks for reading and please share your thoughts.
