[ Hero Concept ] Foraois - Mother Nature's Champion ( Actual Version )

Part 1: Design


For awhile now, I had the idea of a forest-based hero in the world of Deadlock. More specifically, asking myself a single question:

"In a world where ghosts and gods exist, does Mother Nature exist? And if so, how would she feel about the Industrial Revolution and the urbanization of the planet she has looked after for centuries."​


Foraois is my answer, a re-animated oak stump (head) inspired by Irish folklore of forest spirits. His design is intended to be a 'nature' look of 1940's fashion in Ireland at the time as well as conveying the vibes of a 'General' to a higher power.

Backstory :​

Many, despite the wonders and horrors the Maelstrom brought, still dismisses the existence of Mother Nature. Though she surveys from afar, the rise of deforestation and urbanization from the industrial revolution has troubled her for too long. To deliver her message of concern, she extends her hands to her newest champion–an old rotten oak stump. Who, after being given the power to rise once more, now seeks the patrons in hopes of carrying out Mother’s Nature one simple request: Allow nature to overtake the urban jungles as her own domain once more.

Personality :​

Foraois despises everything that represents the destruction of nature and life itself: From inventors whose inventions smog the air to high members of society who’ve thrived in Mother Nature’s absence. But they don't mindlessly in his hatred for humanity, acknowledging those who live simple, rural lives and carry on his goddess gifts. A fun interaction would be with Bebop, a golem turned to life from industrial parts, the two could banter about being two different yet similar golems. Additionally, he would get along with Ivy as the two might share facts about gardening. He could relate to Warden’s blind devotion to a cause, as well as both being very ‘military’ inspired.

Part 2: Abilities:

To preface the ability, I designed this character with the intention of being a defensive tank. His kit and playstyle will be similar to Mcgunnis, where they excel at holding points and tend to play more supportive in boosting their front liners.​

Ability 1: Aromatherapy

The user releases a whiff of floral aroma around themselves. If a nearby ally is within the blast radius, they gain stat boost. Otherwise, enemies within the blast range take both damage and a negative stat effect.
( In simple terms: Imagine cold-front but it can also act like a Heroic Aura active )

Ability Stats:

[ On hit [Enemy]: 80 Spirit Damage [ + x0.8 Spirit Power ] , -15% Damage Dealt (2.5s duration) ]​

[ On hit [Ally]: 50 Healing [ + x0.5 Spirit Power ], +10% Damage Boost (5s duration) ]​

[ 12m Radius, 25s Cooldown ]​

Tier 1: +3m Radius & doubles radius for friendly benefits.​

[Ex. Attacking radius is 15m, but allies within 30m of ability’s usage gains the effects ]​

Tier 2: +65 to Spirit Damage and Healing; Grant allies +25% Healing Boost.​

Tier 3: User now gain the Ally’s benefits; and enemies now get all debuffs reset on hit.​

[Ex. If the enemy is affected by toxic bullets, this ability on hit resets the duration.]

Ability 2: Ingrain Turret

The user stationed themselves into a fixed position, leaving them rooted until they cancel the ability or the ability’s duration ends. While ability is activated, the user is unaffected by displacement CC ( Any object or character who touches the unit stops immediately and disables the abilities effects ) and trades their primary’s spread-shot for a rapid-fire with unlimited ammo for 5s [ Timer starts after firing.]
[ In simple terms: Imagine the Peashooter's Turret form from 'Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare' ]

Ability Stats:​

[+20% Fire Rate, +3 Bullet Damage, 5s Duration (+ x0.1 Spirit Power Multiplier), 35s Cooldown]​

[ Applies Rooted on User, 0.5s Animation Set up. 0.25s Animation Cancel ]​

Tier 1: Grant 20% Bullet and Spirit Resist during the abilities’ Duration.​

Tier 2: +3 Additional Bullet Damage and +15% Fire Rate​

Tier 3: Gain Unstoppable for 3s after initially firing.​

Ability 3: Leech Life

Passive: Bullets build up a status known as ‘Leech Life’, enemies under this condition will heal the user based on the damage they take. Once proc, it’ll last for 5s before being put on cooldown before being able to proc again.
[ In simple terms: Imagine current Silencer proccing a life-steal for 'Foraois' that any of his teammates or objective can attribute to. ]

Ability Stats:​

[ Status: Leech Life - Heals 10% (+ x0.1 Spirit Power Multiplier) of damage the afflicted enemy takes from all sources. 4s Duration, 10s re-apply cooldown. Build-up: 7% per bullet, 12% on headshots. ]​

Tier 1: Enemies now suffer -50% stamina recovery while under Leech Life’s effects.​

Tier 2: +8% Healing received from damage opponent received under Leech Life’s effects.​

Tier 3: +1.5s Leech Life’s Duration and -5s re-apply cooldown.​

Ability 4: Thicket Prison

The user summons a wall of trees to surround and trap opponents within with them. Within the Ult’s Radius, enemies automatically get Leech Life applied to them as well as take damage over time from Thorns on the ground. The walls of trees can be damaged by the enemy to escape, as well as allies trying to enter inside.
[ In simple terms: A Mei-wall circles around the user with Kudzu bombs laying around the ult's area. ]

Ability Stats:​

[ 100s Cooldown, 20m Radius, 5m Radius (Trees), 6s Duration. Applies Leech Life ]​

[ Tree Hp: 1000 [+ x0.5 Spirit Power], Ult’s Thorn Damage: 60 dps [+ x0.6 Spirit Power ],​

Tier 1: -25s Cooldown,​

Tier 2: +500 Tree Health & 30 Thorn’s DPS​

Tier 3: Movement abilities are now silenced within the Ult’s Radius​

Part 3 : Basic Gameplay Information:​

Regarding the character's basic stats. I'll leave that to play test and character conception once an actual build is created. However I will note his weapon.​

Gun's name: Woodhammer​

Details: The weapon is a spread-shot, close range shot-gun that fires 6 acorn pellets in the shape of a pentagon.
It will have a full-reload, 8-9 shots of ammo, and have a base DPS of roughly 45-55. The main damage/poke will come from his Ingrain turret, so his base gun is intended to be used when opponents close the gap.

Heroes' Suggested Stats:​

Base movement speed should be roughly around 6-7m/s, three stamina,
and have a base regen of 2 health per second.
(Despite having Leech-life as a passive, I feel like it won't be strong enough early game to warrant leaving his regen any lower. )
Additionally, his hitbox/size should roughly around Abrams/Warden. Bulky but having a big hitbox, especially while he's standing still in Ingrain Turret form.

Conclusion:​

I've had this character concept in my mind for like a few months now, and I really wanted to throw my hat into the ring and see what everyone thinks. Making characters like these are super fun to brainstorm, because it remains me a lot of my college days studying to be a video-game designer! Let me know what you think of them, and if I should do more in the future!
