Lore:
During the peak of the Space Race against Russia, America began to grow desperate. They wanted to get astronauts into space as quickly as possible, even if it meant cutting corners: cheaper suits, lower-quality spacecraft materials, and fewer resources overall. They even went so far as to outsource critical components to Fairfax Industries, a company far more concerned with cutting costs than protecting human lives. To them, what’s one missing screw? Who really needs proper space food or reliable thrusters? Why not just swap it all out for something cheaper, something experimental? After all, their lead engineer McGinnis had been working on a new kind of fuel something that is infused with souls.
Eventually, they managed to send Cosmo into space, but at what cost?
Due to the unstable and cheaply made materials, the spacecraft started slowly falling apart and allowed something otherworldly to seep into the cabin and into Cosmo’s suit. He became infected by an unknown alien presence, gaining powerful gravity powers in the process.
Cosmo did manage to return to Earth, but he came back with a severe space infection. The alien now speaks to him, constantly urging him to do terrible things. Due to this Cosmo is extremely paranoid. Cosmo is trying to separate himself from the infection through the ritual.
Design:
Cosmo wears an old-school orange and white spacesuit. Alien like tentacles protrude from all directions of the suit. Inside the helmet, his skull is visible. As a weapon, he uses a standard M1911 pistol that he found on the spacecraft.
Abilities:
Cosmo’s play style is all about keeping the enemies on the ground while trying to keep your teammates in the air giving them a height advantage. With the rise of a lot of vertical movement and heroes in the game and a decrease of ways to counter them. I thought a hero specifically to counter air based heroes would be a cool play style, as well as giving your teammates the choice to contest the high ground.
1 Tentacle Slam
Cosmo uses his alien tentacles to slam into the ground. The longer you charge by holding down the ability key, the higher it knocks enemies into the air. If you use your ability mid air on another airborne enemy, Cosmo will do a forward spin and slam them downward with his tentacles. Unlike Lash, this does not pull you down and you will remain in the air. The air variant can also be charged to knock them down even faster.
2 Gravity Manipulation
You can select an ally to decrease both your gravity and theirs for a limited duration. While affected, you deal more damage the higher you are in the air than the enemy you hit. You can also cast this on yourself if there are no allies nearby.
3 Grounded
You throw a gravity orb in front of you. When you hit an enemy, their gravity gradually increases over time, making them fall faster to the ground while in the air, gradually get slower and also gradually reducing their jump height over the duration of the ability. Eventually, they won’t be able to jump at all in the last few seconds of the duration. You also deal a little bit of spirit damage. Flying characters like Grey Talon and Vindicta will slowly be pulled toward the ground, but their abilities will not be canceled. Abilities and items like Majestic Leap and Warp Stone will be less effective.
4 Collapse
Cosmo creates a large circle at an area he chooses and removes all gravity. Any enemy within the radius will have their vertical height locked, meaning they cannot move up or down under any circumstances. They can't use movement abilities but can still move horizontally and use any non-movement abilities and items. Allies in the no gravity zone can move in any direction similar to Vindicta flight.
After a few seconds, any enemies still inside the area are pulled downward at high speed, slamming into the ground. This stuns them and deals heavy damage based on how high in the air they were when the ability activated. If they were already on the ground they would only be stunned for half a second and take a tiny bit of damage. Allies in the radius will be boosted upwards into the air instead. Enemies can dodge this ability by crouching if they are already on the ground.
Killstreak voicelines:
Low kills - “Cosmo shines bright.”
Medium kills - “Cosmo is shooting for the stars.”
High kills - “The sky’s the limit Cosmo, but you surpassed it.”
Killstreak enemy low - “Cosmo is becoming too strong, stop him!”
Killstreak enemy Medium - “Kill that spaceman!”
Killstreak enemy High - “Send that idiotic astronaut back into space!”
