Game stuck on loading screen after getting a match and unable to close the game

everytime i get a match the game gets stuck on the loading screen then reverts me back to menu and when i try to spectate a game on the watch game tab that thing also happens, the strangest thing about this is that sometimes i can spectate a game and go into a match but then after that match it stops working.
not too sure whats going on. also wanst fixed with the version v5251

Hello! I am experiencing a similar problem, my game gets stuck in the loading screen for a match.

I also cannot exit the game normally, my clicking the exit button my game freezes and I have to force quit, this has happened multiple times.

I started to see these problems since the last patch.
 
It's the same for me, since yesterday at least. Usually the game would freeze up then load me in but now it doesn't freeze up at all and nothing loads in so I'm inclined to believe the bug is that the game doesn't load anything at all after finding a match and then the match just closes.

Haven't found anyone that has any sort of fix either nor have I stumbled upon one myself either.
 
+1 I've started having this same trouble after (unsure) either the 10/10 or 10/11 patch. Just now I waited minutes for nothing to happen before I finally crashed it. Now I'm on a 30min ban :'(

edit: well... it was just long loads last night. Now it just hangs here indefinitely, even on spectate :/

edit^2: I swapped to dx11, it worked but gfx sucked. Swapped back to vulkan and seems to be fine now.

edit^3: aaaaaand after 1 game it's back to being effed.

edit^4: there was a minor update and mine seems to be running fine now. Thanks!

edit^5: effed again. Worked for maybe 3 games. Back to dx11.

Same here, dx11 did fix it for me but it tanks my performance. But in both cases my fps drops from 100+ to 20-40 as the game goes on. The fps issues started happening 3 patches ago, this one started happening this patch.

hey guys i think i found a fix for this you just need to play out the whole starting cutscene when you enter the game lol i just played like 4 matches when i did that

doenst work 100% but works most of the time

That probably isn't a fix by the sounds of it.

As a temporary measure, you can force the game to close in your distro's system monitor - It's a process called "MainThrd" and usually has ~4GB of RAM assigned to it. SigKill if necessary. You can then reboot the client and you'll either be able to reconnect, or you'll be registered as having crashed so (in my experience) you don't receive a match penalty. You can restart matchmaking or whatever from there.
 
I've had the same issue on Vulkan no matter what I've tried. GE-Proton16, 15, 14 and Proton Experimental, all had the issue. Tried changing various videos settings, verifying files, reinstalling the game, etc. An extra piece of information that could help is that I've never had this issue loading the map through console with 'map street_test', only ever when loading through the queue or loading into a custom game.

This is definitely happening way more now. Last few games it's happening every single game which is obviously a pain. I'd move to DX11 but pretty sure that's slower and I'm not exactly spare for frames rn
