Doorman's portal interactions with damage dropoff

I have found after some testing that Doorman's portal, or perhaps more specifically, damage dropoff, interact strangely with one another. It seems that damage dropoff is NOT dependent on the distance travelled by a bullet, but is actually dependent on the distance between the attacker and victim.

This means that if doorman has two portals down 60m apart, and you shoot through the portal, hitting someone 2m "away" from you, you will still suffer the same damage dropoff as 60m.

Whether this is a bug, intended, or a limitation of the engine is unclear, and it really doesn't come into play in game frequently, but it feels bad when you set up a nice portal and try to harass the enemy through it, but it doesn't work.
