Controller stopped working, Steam configuration tool stopped taking inputs.

2 things going on since this latest patch with controllers:

1) Logged in to find my PS5 controller no longer worked. Only the left stick worked, none of the other buttons worked. Went to remap buttons in Steam and they were correctly mapped to in-game actions (shoot, melee, etc). I switched the controller button outputs to be keyboard keys (F instead of melee) and it worked.

2) In the Steam, the controller config tool stopped taking inputs. I cannot change the sensitivity of my gyro, for instance. I type in a new number and it reverts to the default number. This is happening in multiple places in the Steam config page.

I've solved my problem. Hope this works for you too -- in Steam controller setup choose the default Deadlock controller profile and customize from there.

My pre-existing config is just bricked. Had to do all new button mappings and gyro settings etc from scratch, but it worked.

Good luck!

Also experiencing this on a Xbox Series style controller. My custom layout is now completely borked besides my camera, jump, and ability buttons. Discovered like you did that any and all steam input mappings don't work now, only ones that are directly translated from keyboard presses. Even their default Steam Input config doesn't work at all for me. My controller is also not detected in their new controller tab.

For any dev that might read this for bug report purposes, gamepad specifically is a GameSir G7 SE

That's actually what I tried first. Seems the game isn't even recognizing that the controller is there. It may be a Linux issue though but that doesn't explain why steam input still recognizes the controller. I'll keep trying things later though.

FYI, enabling Steam Overlay will fix the issue, at least it did for me anyway, but it feels worse than before. Had to re-bind all buttons to actual keyboard and mouse inputs instead of the Steam Input actions. Only one of those that still worked was movement on the left stick. Left stick now no longer works for any kind of mouse pointer while in a menu (Main menu, Buy menu, etc.) My A button no longer works as a left mouse click on menus, have to use right trigger now to confirm menu choices. Hoping they give this a quality of life pass in the immediate future because it just objectively feels worse than before.
