A Jiangshi is a Chinese Vampire. That said, instead of blood, they feed off of "qi," or the life force of living things, and are closer to zombies on account of being a form of undead. These beings were once human, whose souls are trapped in their expired mortal cages from a violent death, improper burial, or even suicide. They were then rose from the dead, folklore suggests this occur when a black cat leaps over their resting place, or a Taoist Priest reanimates them.
For this hero concept, them being an undead should play into their gameplay. They feast off of the life force of living things, so yet another hero to have life steal built into their kit. These creatures are also ungodly powerful. They also have the power of flight, given that they consumed enough life force to achieve this... So, this is my pitch.
Passive: Being around bleeding enemies recovers HP. The Jiangshi's damaging abilities inflicts life drain, which stacks and does damage based on Max HP. Stacks are lost overtime, and the rate of loss increases when you are not in the presence of the Jiangshi.
Primary Weapon: Throwing Chakrams. Hard cap max ammo of 2, hitting an enemy with this will have it fly back in an arc back to the user's projected location (as in, if they're moving to the left, it'll fly toward that direction they would eventually be in.). The user then can catch the returning projectiles to not waste ammo count.
Skill 1: Grapple an enemy, using your body's stiffness to render them helpless and pin them down to the floor. If the victim has any life drain stacks, resets the duration and doubles the potency of it during the skill. Can be canceled early by user. Cannot be cleansed, but can be blocked.
Skill 2: Explodes all enemies that is afflicted with life drain. Can hit the same target multiple times if there are multiple targets near each other. Enemies hit by this ability will be Marked for the user's team for the period, exposing their location.
Skill 3: Passive: Hitting enemies with primary fire will inflict a wound, causing the target to bleed life force. When catching the chakrams, recover a portion of the damage dealt and your next strike will inflict multiple bleed stacks. The more you catch it, the more stacks it applies. Missing a catch cancels this stacking effect. While the cooldown is active, you cannot generate stacks through any means.
Active: Suck the life force of everyone leaking it in your surroundings, creating a barrier based on the number of stacks consumed. Consuming stacks this way will do the full DoT damage in one go to everyone afflicted within a radius.
Ultimate: Passive: When enemies are killed through the use of this ultimate, revives the victim as a bot player that'll follow your Chat Wheel call outs. This is a Silent Killer: Kills through this ultimate does not show up on kill feed. The victim cannot use voice chat, text chat, or pings during the attack or if they died from it, and will lose their ability to communicate until the skinwalker is killed, or the user respawns. In the event the victim respawns, the skinwalker body will disappear. In the event the Jiangshi dies while in possession of a skinwalker, the skinwalker's health will rapidly decay giving them an inevitable death.
Active 1: Take flight, enabling the user to pounce onto walls at high speeds. When the user strikes a player, pin them down and tear into their flesh rabidly. Use L4D's Hunter for reference. Intensifies all forms of bleed and makes the duration indefinite during the period. After the stun, victims can fire back at the crazed zombie in an effort to save themselves. Full cooldown even if the skill misses or gets canceled as a result of CC, and a long cooldown time.
Active 2: Replaces the ultimate if you have a skinwalker. Assumes control of the skinwalker or the Jiangshi. If controlling the skinwalker, the character will be scaled using the victim's items as opposed to the user's. While controlling the skinwalker, enemies will see you as friendly until you take 100 damage from friendly fire, exposing you as a skinwalker. In the event of using a Refresher, the skinwalker perishes instantly, allowing the Jiangshi to use Active 1 once again.
A monster driven by the living's life force, striking fear of anyone that comes across it. What reward would the patrons give such a creature? Possibly a chance of rebirth so they can give life a second chance. To escape from being the ravenous undead and breathe once more. Or maybe to finally die and let their soul move onto the afterlife. Being a slave to one's hunger is no way to live at all. They can only remain sane just long enough to complete the ritual with the promise of consuming a bunch of horrible, living things on the opposing side.
It's an idea I'd been toying with. But, I'd love to see a monster like this making an appearance down the line.
