the problem is that there are so many damage sources in deadlock, if the item resets completely on every new source, it will become useless. at any point you could get hit with multiple different abilities, guns, or even melee. about the problem you mentioned about deserving damage if you run into so much damage, i think you are right, but i think because the item reduces up to 40% damage max of each source i don't think its so overpowered even if it is the perfect counter to the enemy that the person running in wont get punished.Adaptive resilience is really cool, but I think it'd have to be made to only be capable of picking up on one source at a time, and then be put on cooldown for picking up any damage sources except that one for a few seconds, that way it's not just destroying the damage you deserve to take if you bum rush into a flame dash, five shiv knives, and a seven ult, but instead it's really useful for fighting a Shiv, Infernus, Seven, or any gun carry by themselves. Great item for pick characters who are struggling to take out fed carries actually. It would also have cool knowledge-check counterplay, like if a Wraith is fighting you and knows you have Adaptive Resilience, she has to learn to only pick a fight with you if she has a card ready, and start with that, or else she's fucked because her bullets will just get countered the entire fight. Overall it's beaten out by things like debuff reducer or plated armor I think, but much more versatile in that it would help to counter against AP rounds, and spirit DOT characters.
