2024 snowglobe: having players feel like they've missed out on an unlockable before the game is even released.

it's especially ironic considering my account is older than all others in this thread. players really are desperate to grasp onto any sense of superiority. it's pathetic.

and this is the only post you've ever made on the forums (and I know you didn't post in private forums before this, because you got the "first message" award yesterday.) Surely if you were such an early adopter as to brag about it you would have contributed something of value to this site by now?
The snowglobe is a cute little trinket for people who were playing during the beta, its not that important. I wish they made it a little more clear during 2024 that there would be a permanent reward, but the devs clearly didn't know if that was in the cards or not and are making this game as they go.

i was playing during winter 2024, but i never bothered with intentionally going for any christmas challenges, because all i saw was the playerbase struggling to settle on what the specific unlock requirements were. the skins themselves were so makeshift looking that it never occurred to me that i'd be missing out on a permanent showcase item.

i think it's best to either 're-open' the previous snowglobe with the unlock conditions explicitly stated, or return the snowglobe to all players who played in winter 2024. having to feel perpetually disappointed every time i enter the hideout would absolutely suck for competitionists like myself. :^(

i dont think its a big issue, its a little collectable for people who played a long time ago that is just cosmetic, if it was something like snowballs where you have a competitive advantage if you dont have it i could see it but i dont see a reason to have it obtainable again

wow, this playerbase is absolutely rancid. i guess it's really true that this sort of game attracts the most short-tempered and antisocial people out there. i was playing only a select few characters in winter 2024, and amateurishly at that. the unlock requirements were never stated to the players. it was never stated that there would be a permanent reward. in fact, i'm fairly certain the devs themselves weren't even planning on having a permanent reward until the hideout came around. seriously guys, why are you stuck with such a miserable mindset?

im just giving my two cents, take it or leave it. don't have a tantrum. the 'rancid' playerbase is a playerbase that debates about the game like this, if that is not something you like, go back to deep rock. you're welcome to post your opinion but when you hear something that doesn't echo yours, you can't freak out. noone is being rude to you beyond jesting, and if you can't tolerate that than many competitive games would hurt your feelings.

its a unreleased game, its purely for the joy and whimsey in your heart. theres going to be plenty of things in the future

the problem started when assumed there wouldnt be any permanent reward/showscase for the profile. yes hideout didnt exist but Valve is known to bring limited time events and specifically how many things went into that event, custom skins and a whole difficult challenge to do. No one knew that you would get a showscase but you couldnt assume there wouldnt be any rewards for those who managed to get all of them. I assumed there would be a showscase/reward, its choices.

Limited time object shows that you played when the game it was just starting out, or some very difficult challenge that you decided to try the effort and complete them. Bringing it back would defeat the purpose to showscase you played back then, unless they split 'OGs' (like fortnite does with skins for those who bought a skin way before it came back, giving a recolor for the OG player)

since january they added an option in your profile "showscases" and since then it shows that you participated and what skins you got so its not specifically for hideout in this case.

you learn from the mistakes. I myself made a mistake to not play enough back when season 1 of apex legends launched for example, or fortnite season 4. you will survive

Some didnt have access to the game and thats valid but if they decide to continue with limited events then thats just really unfortunate indeed. Thought its just a globe and not some more special skin or item.
