Zerggy changing FOV to gain unfair advantage. CHEATING OR NOT? (clip)

Zerggy and some others "competitive" content creators force their FOV to be higher than the games' standard 75.

Time stamped when he even admits using FOV mod, but it's obvious by just looking at his many videos.

So is this allowed? If so, why not add a setting?
  • It's not in the game settings.
  • It's not even in the ini files without adding it to it.
  • It gives a massive advantage over others by letting you see more at once.
I think Valve should just add a FOV slider at this point since people will just use mods or add FOV changing lines into the configuration files.

If they didn't want those changed, they would've disabled them. Changing FOV through this method has been a thing for ages now.

That's probably what they will do (eventually). Base 75 is incredibly claustrophobic. That's the same value that TF2 launched with. Imagine not being able to change that.

I don't really find this to be cheating. Valve games have typically always given access to an FOV slider, and I expect they will for this game too. Just because the community is doing it before Valve's implemented it doesn't mean it's cheating.

Gaining advantage over others via tricks is cheating, same way how smurfing is cheating, same reason why there are weight classes in sports. The moment Valve adds UI options to increase your FOV to 350, it stops being a cheat, simple as that.

I mean, I'd go as far as say that model/texture modding is cheating as well, change all char textures to bright magenta or specifically colour critical shot areas and have better awareness of movement. Although Deadlock thankfully is not a stealth shooter, that does not change the fact it can be an advantage because its not the designed balance and equal fighting field for everyone.

You do not have to install anything custom to change FOV. You're literally just changing a basic command within a text file that's present and editable without any additional tools or software. It's no more "cheating" than running XMP, a mouse with additional side buttons, or even a monitor above 60hz.

Changing a variable supported by the engine without having to download anything extra is more than enough to not be cheating.

Aimbot is just a tool

It seems like you guys don't know anything about FOV.

Bigger FOV means you can see more, but everything looks much distant that it is and vice versa. Increased FOV lets you to see more if only you're able to. You have to notice any changes on the screen.

I have a bad vision. I already almost have my head tied to the monitor. If I had FOV increased, it's would be like playing blind.

So I don't see any problems in changing FOV.

just use an aimbot as assisting tool, its ok, its not cheating because you are nearly blind without one ?
Or repaint all headshot textures bright red, as an accessibility UX solution ofc.

75 is the standard for third person shooters, you can look at fortnite if you want, it's 75 3rd and 90 1st by default.
