It's not only the Heavy Melee:
All the enemy / not-teammate player-sounds are enhanced / increased to the opposing team players, including walking / sprint footsteps.
All these most importantly disregarding the line-of-sight.

Notice how it's a *friendly* Infernus. I needed to be able to see them through the wall to line them up with the machine. That's how ridiculous the range is.

Indeed that also.
The Heavy Melee simply is even further audible when it is "not" the teammate.
