P.S.: I never liked OG Wrecker's gameplay or temporary art, but I did like the lore a lot. Especially the soldier, disgusting monster and "Butcher of Ixia" references. Therefore I present, my interpretation of Wrecker. A disfigured monster of his own doing, all for the love of his country.

Excuse my crude drawing, but I wanted to put something for visualization
HIDDEN KING: "Captain, your patriotism is honorable, but the Hidden King knows you never forget how they crowned you in hollow medals then discarded you like spent ammunition when you served no further purpose. Summon the Hidden King, and he shall make you whole again."
LORE:
Captain Warren "Wrecker" Recker is one of the most decorated soldiers in United States history, having been deployed to numerous high risk combat zones throughout his career, all for the love of his country. A true American patriot.
After taking part in a voluntary experimental military program that involved deploying individuals with enchanted or occult abilities directly onto the new battlefield, Wrecker had the chance to command a task force, codenamed "Damned Walkers"; a unit that specializes in ███████ ████████, destabilizing ██████ ██████, █████████ ███████ █████████ in a █████-███████████ ███████ ███ ████████ ███████ ███ █████ ████████████ ███████.
If a mission was deemed impossible, the Damned Walkers were usually the first unit assigned. These were objectives where conventional and even occult-powered forces were expected to fail or where survival was considered unlikely.
One of the program's advantages was a ritual developed through classified occult research. With the correct incantation, a fallen operative could be revived after death.
However, repeated resurrection came with side effects. Each time a soldier returned from death they became slightly less stable, both physically and mentally. Early symptoms included memory gaps, personality changes and physical abnormalities such as additional limbs, duplication of organs, skin disfigurement, misalignment of anatomy, manifestation of Ixian, ████, ████ and other mammal features and █████ ████ ███ of ██████.
Interestingly, some of these symptoms serve as combat advantages. For instance, multiple operators report being able to control and resist fire with the manifestation of Ixian features. Members of the Damned Walkers have caught onto this knowledge early and abused it in their favor; eventually most even began competing to see who could gain the greatest advantage from repeated resurrections.
Years later, following an incident in North Ixia which permanently killed most members, and allegations of committed war crimes, the United States Military officially disavowed the entire unit. The Damned Walkers were discharged and most records of their operations were classified and sealed shut. Few even know of their existence.
Since leaving the military, Wrecker's condition has continued to deteriorate further. The effects of repeated resurrections have severely damaged his body beyond any repair; sleepless nights, prolonged pain and personality disorders have all led Wrecker to conclude that he needs help.
GAMEPLAY:
Wrecker is a gun hero that plays a lot like Huskar from Dota 2; becoming stronger the further his health is reduced. Through combat, he can sustain having just enough health to be at peak damage potential and when needed: Even going all in with no regards to whether he is going to live through a fight or not.
Weapon: Automatic M16 Carbine (e.g., something Special Forces would use)
Ability 1: (ACTIVE) Volatile Arm
Wrecker charges his disfigured arm with volatile blood magic for 5 seconds.
At any point, Wrecker can rip out his arm and hurls it at his crosshair.
The arm detonates on impact with the first enemy, stunning and damaging him.
After 5 seconds, the arm reaches peak instability, delivering maximum damage and stun duration.
If held for more than 5.5 seconds, the arm erupts prematurely, detonating on Wrecker, dealing the full damage and stun to himself.
(After Wrecker throws it, he grows a new one instantly)
Ability 2: (TOGGLE) Blood Dividend
Wrecker empowers his bullets, dealing a small self damage with each bullet fired.
In addition, Every X damage dealt to a target with these bullets causes a piece of Flesh to fly off the target and fly towards Wrecker. Wrecker can collect Flesh to heal for a percentage of the damage dealt overtime, while enemies can destroy these by stepping on them.
Ability 3: (PASSIVE) Sanguine Engine
Wrecker's injuries feed his power, giving increased fire rate, spirit resistance and health regen based on missing health.
Ultimate: (ACTIVE) Forbidden Incantation
Wrecker casts a forbidden incantation on himself, marking his current location and draining his max health over time until his death. Upon death, he detonates in a powerful explosion, dealing spirit damage. Wrecker can manually trigger the explosion early. After dying, Wrecker resurrects at the marked location with the amount of HP he activated the ability with.
ADDITIONAL LORE:
Wrecker earned the nickname "The Butcher of Ixia" following his repeated deployments in North Ixia, more specifically, an incident where his unit allegedly committed a terrible war crime. But that's not the whole truth.
