Well we’ve definetly had our look at what a failure of a hero shooter Concord turned out to be, with everyone trying to be more safe and friendly, we’ve forgotten where our real interests in video game characters have come from. Interesting character design and character motivation, a background can be important as well, but it's a characters actions that truly matter in the long run, for instance a Hero in my eyes is someone who stands out among the rest, someone who will do anything no matter the cost, and stand up for what -they- believe is right, after all true heroes stand up for what they believe such as the one and only Arthas Menethill and real villains, are that as well, though they may stand for something everyone may be against, sometimes their motivations behind the scenes can be self-serving, yet non the less, very much goal oriented especially as they reach for power, you thought I was going to say Arthas again didn’t you?.. No, Illidan Stormrage, is another example of such a heroic Villain. Yet were not here to ponder on the long story of Warcraft and it’s titular characters, instead, it’s something game companies can learn from, what made those characters stand out, why people loved them so much, and why even game companies even Blizzard, continue to fail, because they seem to lack that vision that their companies predecessors had, things have definitely gone more soft, and as these characters are further expanded upon, and art or skins of them begin to release, it’s very important to remember, why we play games in the first place, to many that could mean many things, but to most I’d be willing to bet, it would be the Coolness Factor, so who out of this roster of characters seems to be cool, and who seems to be some poor sod who’s destined to sit on the sideline, wishing their coach would put them back in the game. Even I’ll admit, looks aren’t exactly everything, they could have incredible abilities, and you will have some gamers that simply use a hero due to their tendency for characters of an overpowered nature. So going off looks alone, here’s who I would have on the top of my list for the hero roster, to whom I’d let sit on the sidelines, eating sunflower seeds and spitting the shells to the dust.
BeBop, Kelvin, Pocket, Seven, Abrams, Infernus, Ivy, Lady Geist, Shiv, Paradox, Wraith, Viscous, Warden, Mo & Krill, Vindicta, Dynamo, Haze, Yamato, Mcginnis, Lash, Grey Talon
The ones lower down on the list starting at Vindicta, definitely need a bit of a face lift, or.. Anything, in order to pique my interest, they could be holding Frostmourne itself, and I’d still think they appear as bland and uninteresting, and for a hero game such as Deadlock, no one wants a hero to come out dead on arrival. Think of how cool the roster of characters were when Overwatch First Released, their diverse nature and everything about them that stood out, even Valorant Has incredible character design, but they have had their practice, being the company that you know, released freakin League of Legends, a game known to many worldwide, even to people like me who don’t even play the thing. I suppose what a lot of people are saying is that it isn't exactly stealing, if you take a concept, and you make it your own! Go all out, and if you want American Indian Representation as you seem to have with Grey Talon, at least give us something cool to look at or feel, nobody wants to go around playing as a woman who looks like she belongs in a retirement, home, she definitely isn't any Ana (from overwatch) it's also important to keep in mind that if you're going to do themes for specific characters to represent who they are, to implement deigns like Wolves or other Tribal artifacts, Tattoo's, that sort of stuff, you could have had an Indian Woman who looks young and feral looking, with the malice of a wolf stare in her eye! All food for thought.
