Viscous cube prevents heroes inside from dealing damage if they are channeling a spell that requires line of sight such as haze, seven. This wasn't the case before the 12.09 patch and no change was mentioned in the patch notes so I assume the change in behavior is caused by the punch+cube interaction being changed. Unless this wasn't intended in the first place and the previous version was the bugged one, this seems like a bug.
