Viscous alt fire explosion VFX sometimes doesn't appear

The alt fire projectile landed and dealt damage but no explosion VFX appeared.

Seems to be incredibly inconsistent but I have been able to reproduce this. However, I was not able to reproduce this on a still target, only the moving one shown in the video.
