The 12.5m is the ability range and it doesn't interact with the knockback distance when you land the ability on the enemy.
The Gutshot ability's knockback distance can not be increased via any items. I've run tests with my friends in Sandbox to make sure the heavy melee lands. Is this intended that the "knockback distance" is not written anywhere nor that it can be increased with Greater Expansion or Duration? Greater Duration only increases the stun duration which is still not enough to make sure Heavy Melee lands regardless of distance being so short after stunning someone.
I can only make a build that revolves around the Ultimate ability Ira Domini. The only well performing Venator build. Any other ability either does not scale or really hard to land unless you pick your fights in small areas.
But oddly enough that if we were able to make a build that revolved around the Gutshot ability, it would make Venator something like Abrams. You Shoulder Charge with ability 2 which guarantees a melee and heavy burst opponents. I don't think the 3rd Venator ability upgrade is a healthy choice. It could be used as a mobility tool with the knockback with lower cooldown or ability charges like an extra dash + knockback or it could be some utility ability which allows Venator to collide two enemy players into eachother and stun both. Blessed melee damage ability upgrade can either be broken or weak at best which makes it very odd into Venator's kit. If it buffed light melees as well, then I could see it being a minor utility bonus which you can use after a wall stun but it only applies to heavy melees.
So I'm kind of lost as in what are we supposed to do with this ability's final upgrade? It is pointless to have right now and it could be broken if it actually stunned long enough for a guaranteed heavy melee. Especially in close quarters.
Same can be said for the Trap and Grenades abilities where they are also utility heavy abilities. They do not give great benefits early game nor lategame. Against meta characters who fly above like Mina or Lash, I doubt I can efficently and consistently land grenades and traps on. Even if I could, debuff remover/dispel magic can easily remove them.
Let me know what you think (Because I might be wrong ofcourse) and thanks for reading.
