LOL! The cube IS a wall. However, it shouldn't pierce through the strong gel.

I did more testing. The shotgun blast doesn't hit opponents behind it. But armor piercing rounds goes through viscous gel.

My bad then, seems like a really odd interaction that shouldn't really happen but I suppose I'm wrong. Thanks for answering though!

No no, you misunderstood me. I found it funny that it counts as a wall (as technically it is, you know?). You're good - I'm in agreement!
The interaction in my opinion shouldn't happen. Piercing rounds does pierce through it, which I did discuss in a previous discussion regarding piercing rounds with a back and forth about what consistutes it.
I think piercing rounds nor shotgun should go through the gel, as
1) The gel is not an enemy (neither is Kelvin dome or Mcginnis wall)
2) If the shotgun doesn't go through the cube, why should it pierce and affect the person inside?
