Specifically on Abrams, using Colossus will cause the guardian to not detect you, but faces your direction. this rule is ignored when face-to-face with the guardian.
On taller character models, like Yamato and M&K, the guardian still targets them, but shoots in the wrong area, thus not damage you. Jumping around in a certain spot will cause the guardian to damage you.
