This game killed my gpu

I got mine 2016 and i never maxed it out. But its true its old as fuck.
But still, never problem with any other games and i have been playing Deadlock for 200h.

There is a lot of threads of gpu crashes and spiking to 100%. Imagine my shity old gpu and the game thinks i have 3000 series. Ofc the GPU will be killed.

This game isn't 100% to be blamed but it is the most reason to be blamed.
well in general a gpu running at max usage is not that unusual honestly. in most of the times you will run into a gpu limit when playing a game, mine also runs at 100% the whole time when playing sth like hogwarts legacy or even minecraft with shaders. ofc on the long run 100% usage drains more lifetime but thats nothing deadlock in particular can be blamed for. i mean surely it shouldn't have went up in flames though and it might be that the game had more impact than other fully polished games (as you said you seem not to be the only one with issues) but you can't throw modern software at pretty old hardware and expect it to work just fine. also your gpu has thermal paste in it which you probably never replaced within 8 years etc. so probably the wear on it just showed itself finally.

That thermal paste is at most 1 year old.
I take care of my stuff.

My mistake was to keep playing deadlock after first attack.

I am running my very old gtx 970 here and yes i need new. I need new pc overall.
Your GPU is old enough to go to Middle School, but they cannot driver anymore... (see what I did there)

I dont mean to sound rude, but 1st sentence you already know your problem.

This can also be due to not enough power from the PSU as well.

I cant imagine how old/bad your CPU is, and full of heavy-cake dust.

I am sorry but you cannot be serious posting this picture.

If your GPU is this dirty, I cannot IMAGINE your GPU/CPU is on a Cooking Pan!

Your A/C might be cranked to like 65 degrees so you cant tell if your GPU/CPU is burning or not.

Every little thing counts. The OLDER - THE WORSE - So you have to take MORE CARE.
It is like Human Beings, the Older the easier to break.. Simple rules of life.

I take care of my stuff.

Taking care of your stuff does not mean you leave it alone for many many years.

That is like saying, "I love my dog, I take care of him" But you only feed him.
You have to give him a bath, take them out for walk, show some love so that he can love you back. Not leave him in corner.

With the quality and resolution of the picture you took,
you have a $500-$800+ Phone, but you cannot buy a $100 GPU. Or a "Can of Air" to spray dust?

I help people build computers and sometimes clean for them, and all the time people dont know why things break when you dont take care of them.

I hope this give you perspective, friend. If you love something, take care of it.

So after latest update it happened again.
But this time it fried my GPU and are now dead.
Started a match, checked settings and nothing changed. 1 min into the game my pc shut down. Smelled burnt. I just left for bed.

Now when I started the pc. Smoke came from the GPU and it smells awful.

So my question is, wtf are you guys doing over there? This is "new world" all over again
What I have to say I noticed was pretty much already said, but I want to say it anyway. My first response to reading this was: New World was not at fault for bricking graphics cards, what it really did was make apparent that the graphics cards were made faulty. The first New World beta started 2 months after the 3080 TI graphics card was released, and New World only bricked 3080 TI graphics cards, it was a stress test that made transparent that the newly released graphics card wasn't stress tested well enough before it was released.

Your GPU is programed to tell your computer how much it is willing to take and your computer is programed to listen to that GPU and give it as much as it is willing to take, a program won't fry your GPU unless something goes wrong there, and if something goes wrong there, let me be the first to tell you that most of the mainstream games that have come out since New World, and even before New World, would have destroyed your GPU.

If a program is going to destroy your GPU it would have to be a root level program than tells your computer to give your GPU more than it can take. To which I'd argue that tons of games have root level anti-cheats that one could argue might be able to do that, but this game as of yet doesn't have root level anti-cheat software, whenever a game has root level software it always becomes a huge controversial topic.
