This game killed my gpu

I am running my very old gtx 970 here and yes i need new. I need new pc overall.

But i have put over 84 hours in this game and have never had problems.
Few spikes here and there, nothing i am not use to by now.

But this night, i was playing, enemy team pauses and when unpace my game went nutz and had 0.00000001 fps.
I forcequit the game and joins again. No problem.
After few minutes ( dont know exact ) My pc shutdown like the power went out. I couldn't get my pc to start again...

This sceard the shit out of me, is it dead? has the time come?

Testing the pcu, it work.
Testing without gpu, it work.
Dont tell me, the gpu is dead... Puts it in and pc work normal.
Okay wth was the problem?
Start the game, sitting in menu, no problem. Okay lets game. Match starts and as soon as i started shooting. The moment i left click, my screen gones black and i had to force restart pc. Nothing happens, switch over to cpu graphic and it work. Look for my gpu, its not there. Looks inside pc, fans spinning on gpu. Wth? okay.

Restart pc, gets gpu to work again. Okay?

Testing other games, gpu works fine, game dont crash and works as intended.

This lead to that deadlock, this game, kills my gpu.

I have no money nor mental health to lose my pc as im going through hell right now.

Please, look into this.

Caping the fps have saved my gpu and are only at 70% max.

So the new fps cap is draining more than allowed.

I have an RTX 3080.

During the last large patch i did get a hard system shutdown almost identical to this mid match. I don't get shutdowns like that on any other games and i have hundreds of hours of deadlock without this type of crash.

Typically a hard shutdown with a refusal to reboot tends to be thermal throttling or another hardware issue specific to your device. I would be surprised if deadlock was a culprit in any other way than simply being very graphically demanding.

I don't think its deadlock, probably just a per-system configuration issue that extreme GPU load might be triggering.

Other games i play use 100% and has never hardcrash my pc like this. EVER.
My gpu even smell like something burned. THAT has def not happen, even in high demanding games that i can barely run in lowest settings.

I smell like same problem a other game had where it tries to use more than 100% of you gpu. Even if you have the newest gpu.

Caping the fps made the game run smoothly, not even a spike.

Defauly fps cap should be 120, not 240. Even better, have default at 60. That way people wont have they gpu litterly burning

So after latest update it happened again.
But this time it fried my GPU and are now dead.
Started a match, checked settings and nothing changed. 1 min into the game my pc shut down. Smelled burnt. I just left for bed.

Now when I started the pc. Smoke came from the GPU and it smells awful.

So my question is, wtf are you guys doing over there? This is "new world" all over again

45-80 fps
Caped the fps at 80 because it tried to do more and it was the only fix before. I guess the game ignored that settings

I'm inclined to think it was a component failing on your card slowly rather than Deadlock itself causing it, there are lots of people running it on old hardware 🤔

From the picture, it looks like a ?MOSFET blew? If you're lucky, the card could be repairable.

One thing to note: a game cannot damage your hardware components. Any power loss on the PC is indicative of hardware failures. If a specific game is the only one that causes it would only tell us that the game puts enough strain on the system for your problem to show up, but at the end of the day it's not a cause for the problem and you need to start looking into why your hardware is failing.

New world - do I have to say more?

I could play any other game no problem. For hours long.
This game is the fault here.

Perfect opportunity to stop playing games, get a job, and work on your mental health.
Trust in God, brother, and you'll get through this.

New world did not kill any GPUs. The only ones that died were defective already. It's like saying the road destroyed a car because the wheel fell of while goin 100 kmph on it so it must be the road the destroys cars.

My point stands - a game will not kill your hardware, you have a problem already regardless of what game you are playing.

You can definitely kill hardware IF the hardware is not properly set up. Most software does not bring hardware to its limits so there is never a risk or a real stress test to check if something is wrong. Sensors should shut the PC down if anything gets too hot, but sensors are not perfect either, etc.

Run tools like prime95 to bring your CPU to its limits for example and if your tower is not well maintained, dust everywhere, poor airflow, it can fail.

Maybe it wasn't the game that killed your GP, but the GP had its time and it happened to die in time when the game was running. It could have been tetris.
Maybe

i obviously can't say for sure, but that gpu has been released over 10 years ago so jautja could be right. that it actually survived until now is pretty impressive and you can replace it for probably less than 50 bucks with a 1070, even less for a 970 or you might even get lucky and find someone who just gives one of those away for free on several online market places. that card is for sure not made to withstand current standards, even though its sad that it broke down the time might just have come

As it dmg it the first time, yes it did killed it as after first crash, i played many other gamed, i played Space enginners for 12h and card never got higher than 70c.

So it sad to say, this game affected the gpu.

Been playing other gamed with no problems or any change.

I got mine 2016 and i never maxed it out. But its true its old as fuck.
But still, never problem with any other games and i have been playing Deadlock for 200h.

There is a lot of threads of gpu crashes and spiking to 100%. Imagine my shity old gpu and the game thinks i have 3000 series. Ofc the GPU will be killed.

This game isn't 100% to be blamed but it is the most reason to be blamed.
