The State of Modding and Competitive Advantage in Deadlock

Hi everyone,

I wanted to bring up a concern about some of the modding tools currently being used in Deadlock. While I understand that modding can be a great way to improve accessibility and customization, some of the available modifications seem to provide a significant gameplay advantage over players who are playing the game in its default state.

Examples include things like:

  • Character outlines that make enemies much easier to track in fights
  • Health bars that display exact HP values, which can give players more precise information than the base UI
  • Shaderless maps, which can remove visual clutter and make enemies easier to spot

Individually these might seem small, but combined they can create a noticeable advantage compared to players who are not using these tools.

I’m not against customization in general. In fact, I think some of these ideas could actually improve the game if they were implemented officially in a balanced way.

For example, the health bar could be implemented as an optional UI customization, similar to how crosshair customization works in many games. That way players who want more clarity could enable it, while the game would still remain fair and consistent for everyone.

Right now, however, some mods seem to go beyond simple customization and start affecting competitive balance.
