The clip that made me drop Mo & Krill from Roster

Firstly: apologies for the audio being out of sync, I have posted about this on the bug subforum & I know it makes the clip annoying to watch. Please don't discuss it here in this thread as it isn't the topic.

  • Deadlock_M&KUlt.01.mp4: only exists to show how forgiving M&K ult is suppose to be. That's it: it's context for the actual clip in question.
  • Deadlock_M&KUlt2.WTF.mp4: shows the straw that broke the camel's back. I phantom strike at the very start into Shiv yet despite spamming my ult key I dance around until I die. At 4 seconds my combo starts yet stops and the same happens at 8 seconds.

When I type 'the straw that broke the camel's back' I mean I have consistently experienced this. The 2nd worse time was when I dashed into an ulting enemy Haze to... stand beside her taking dmg until I dropped dead. That is what you'd see if you were another player in that match. In actuality I was spamming my ult key while being right beside here. Crosshiar on her.

And while this clip is video documentation, & that Haze story is a memory recall, I have so many deaths on M&K where I am spamming my ult key on an enemy that is close enough for it. Please, do not think 'are you sure you were in range' oh yes 100% that's why I move into them if I'm not. Nor 'maybe 100% of the time they have unstoppable or something'. Sometimes players get unstoppable sure, but no. Not like my luck with M&K ult.

I have also switch 'ability key cancels ability' off in the settings as it is a guess that I am pressing my ult key again after starting it. Space is the only way I cancel abilities and believe you me I am not pressing space here.

I don't even think this an actual bug, I think this is just the game telling me to not play M&K. Which is unfortunate because I am improving on them (like I am on my whole roster). Compare my first 23 matches of M&K to every match after that due to my 24th match being when they 'clicked' for me. My improvement with them has shot up if you could graph it out.

... But I basically don't have a 4th ability & I don't understand why. That's the real kicker: I have thought, analysed, tried to figure out what I'm doing wrong. But a real player can be as close as hideout inferus is in the demonstration clip with my crosshair on them instead of to the side and... I stand there like a monkey doing no dmg yet having my healthbar melt.

I just can't M&K anymore. My tolerance over this ult fiasco has run out. game says 'if clutch situation, screw your ult only on M&K'. Like okay game I'll listen after 30-odd matches and drop them from roster, happy?

A question and an observation.
One, are you using instant cast?
Two, you're playing on around 90-100 ping in the first clip. Mo's ult is technically not instant, just very fast. It takes around 10 ticks to come out in a 64 tick game, or ~156ms. Between Combo's startup time and the ping, Shiv passed through your cursor and out of range before the startup of your ability was able to register on the server.

You end up landing the second Combo but must've fatfingered parry, because you instantly entered the parry animation and let go of the Shiv (which is why your Combo goes on cooldown).

Yes, I tested quick vs instant with their ult and found instant feels better. Most abilities I use quick with a few exceptions. This is one of such exceptions. All items are instant too for me with long press for self use of items.

If you are telling me that this net jitter issue is causing me to be screwed with M&K ult then that issue is worse than I thought. I started playing Deadlock again in February (after 16 hours total in 2024, negligible) and everything was fine until recently. No ping issues in party hideouts or matches at first.

Though, while in solo hideout ping is 0 or 1, I still don't get how the in the match I didn't ult him on spamming the key after phantom strike. Phantom strike is made for such combos. Why was he, apparently, out of range immediately after phantom strike? That failure set me up to be slowed, combined with the 'false' start of my ult, combined into your third point. Yet there is so much leeway as shown in the hideout Infernus clip for their ult.

I just checked against hideout Abrams. You're right. parry cancels abilities.

So, a new player, learning the game, decides to read through the settings and see if everything is fine. Part of those setting is a 'cancel ability key' defaulting to space, & under that is a toggle to use ability keys to cancel themselves too. This is what every new player eventually does if they stick around long enough.

"Oh, I'll stick with space only" I say to myself, confident that only space now cancels my abilities. Surely the settings would mention if any other key override abilities, right?

Yoshi, with parry cancelling abilities yet nothing in the settings to change that: 'I'm away to ruin this player's whole Mo & Krill experience".

.... Yeah, no. why does parry cancel abilities? @Yoshi please remove this mechanic ASAP or make it an actual settings option. Why are players left to recognise it themselves through accidents like this or be told about it?

This clip, the game itself screwed me over in several different ways as I've attempted to learn and get comfortable with my roster in street brawl to then bring my roster over to standard mode. Between the jitter issue and this revelation... as well as my description of other M&K experiences with ult even before the jitter issue started btw.

It's only M&K too I have issues with. On a 'why can I just not get an ability to click with me' level. Over 30 matches and this barrier is the first I am unable to get through for some reason. M&K Ult is just not working for me how it works for others even before the jitter issue like with the Haze story. But it has happened more than these two times.

The game simply does not want to to play M&K, & I'll now listen. No other hero am I experiencing similar strife with learning them. To think that it is only one ability too. But I am a 3 ability M&K player due to the game itself.
