T2 Vitality Item: Spellward

We really do lack strong Spirit defense items that can help negate targeted effects, so here's my concept:
Spellward-1745969306.png

It throws out like a standard grenade, so it's possible to block projectiles up close, or to run through a wall you drop down to lead a projectile chasing you (like Curse or Wraith's Telekinesis[ult]).

Numbers are, of course, flexible based on what testing would deem appropriate but I think the concept is solid.

It has to affect only non-ultimate abilities/projectiles then. 1,250 counter to a high risk - high reward - high cooldown ultimate would be ridiculous.
It would require a great deal of planning, some luck, and also put the item on an 80s CD to block Paradox's ult. If it blocked anything else before that (such as a Carbine, grenade, or even a Slowing Hex) it would be put on at least a 25s cooldown and not be able to block the ultra fast projectile.

But it can still block a Paradox Ult.

Though I get the feeling based on your responses that there isnt anyway you would be happy with an item like thisbin the item pool

Not necessarily. It just feels unfair that some heroes have non-projectile ulties and would be unaffected by this new item. 1250 souls is too cheap anyway.

interestingly, we already have a 1250 item that does hard counter ultimates. (But I still agree with you, this should not be the case)

basically the same argument made for this other 1250 item that already exist in game that shuts down ults for specific characters.

If you imply Reactive Barrier (which I like a lot), it's something different. Automatically triggered shields matter, but those ultimates still go through and apply their effects. What you are suggeesting is an e-shift / unstoppable lever stuff. And both of these items are 6k, centered around their usage on time.

I am not. I am talking about Slowing hex.

I will point out that the Spellward is deployed like a Grenade, meaning that it requires forethought as to where you want to drop it as well as the item's actual travel time as a delay to it's deployment. The cooldown for blocking an ultimate is also generally as long or longer than the ultimate CDs themselves.

So it's both a skillshot to dodge an ability that is homing (which is difficult) and is a long CD. If it were more expensive, I would have to correspondingly improve it's power (which would likely translate to a lower CD). I think that this item would be a solid option at it's price point, and I haven't seen any arguments that have made me feel otherwise. Like the poster above said, we already have items that counter specific ultimates (Slowing Hex) and aren't skillshots and all within roughly the same price range.

If the economy of those items changes or the effect of those items are changed, then I'll update this item accordingly. Until then, I feel it falls within the power budget of other similar items, but gets more broad applications in exchange for being a skill shot and a much longer CD the more effective it is.

Im just going to point out that, while I like this item over all, it is likely too cheap. Should be at least 3k like most of the other counter items. Stick with precedence. I personally hate that slowing hex counters ults for so cheap but the item as a whole isnt strong enough to be worth more. It simply shouldnt stop ults in the case of slowing hex.

I would rather yours stay the same mostly, adjust some of its power and make it a 3k item.
