Shiv, at the moment, is described as "bleeds out foes, then goes for a kill". This is, very much, not what he does. He can play like this, but in doing so he is also going to build into his dash making himself a close range, Abrams like brawler. Both playstyles are built into with the same items, so Shiv becomes a character who does too much. But both playstyles are fun and have fans, so why not give him the equalizer treatment?
Shiv 1:
Shiv 1 is a poke character who acts as the original description. He will harass the enemy, wearing them down with DoT, then lunge in for a kill. You are a stalker, lurking in a teamfight waiting for someone to be weak enough for an execute.
Weapon: Shiv 1 has a rifle with a shotgun alt fire, which works the same as shiv's original alt fire. This allows him to harass at range, but dive when he needs to.
Ability 1: Shiv's knives, same as normal. Ricochet knives are built into the level 3 upgrade.
Ability 2: New ability, Tracking knives. This is a 2nd charged ability and both improve from extra charge. These knives allow shiv to see a target through walls, and reset cooldowns. This allows him to be much more of a stalking character.
Ability 3: Shiv 1 gets the DoT aspect of bloodletting. This increases his effective hp, letting him dive when he needs to, but not sustaining himself in a fight.
Ability 4: Shiv 1 gets the execute, but not rage. The tier 1 upgrade is now health on kill, allowing a near dead Shiv 1 to save himself.
Shiv 2:
Shiv 2 is a brawler character who dashes into the enemy, using his 3 and his rage to sustain himself and wear down a group fight. He has the potential to 1v6, but this is dependent on positioning and reactions rather than raw tankyness.
Weapon: Shiv 2 has Shiv's normal shotgun
Ability 1: New ability I-frames. When activated, Shiv's dodges make him immune to damage and effects (think Dark Souls). This means you can dodge out of a stun if you are quick enough. This does not work if you've already been caught in a stun or if its a following stun (think warden hook or 7 stun). Rage increases the number of I frames. This should cover some of the lost sustain from splitting his 3 and also lean into those "skin of your teeth" moments dash shiv players live for.
Ability 2: Shiv's dash. Nothing changes here
Ability 3: Shiv 2 has the healing aspect of bloodletting. Press 3 to regain a % of recent damage taken
Ability 4: Rage, just the passive. Tier 3 rage gives you inherit lifesteal while rage is up.
