Rebuttal Upgrade?

Rebuttal is a great item in melee-heavy lanes but I feel it should have an upgrade so its worth keeping around as an early T1 item. Maybe with the recent Counterspell changes/buffs giving you 150+ heal on successful parry, it would be suitable for Rebuttal to upgrade into Counterspell? Or maybe Reactive Barrier to give an incentive to buy it earlier in lane against CC heavy comps. Alternatively, maybe Rebuttal into Reactive into Counterspell? Of course values, properties and maybe some tiers would have to change if such an upgrade tree was implemented.

Rebuttal would have to be gutted or straight up reworked. The fact that it doesn't upgrade into anything is what keeps it from being too overwhelming.

I agree, Rebutal feels nice and having to give it away in late while there are 3 melee items with upgrades feels kinda bad to lose for other things, specially if you are punched too hard. If you are going against a Melee problem, it would feel nice to keep the direct upgrade all the way to the end. Some pros deem it a waste of money so I want to at least make it a consideration. So I want to pitch some ideas to make into upgrade
Stat upgrades: (imo only one of these should be good)
+10% status resistance (Melee builds usually rely on stuntimes to get a hit in, Or surprise punch)
+20% melee resistance

Effect upgrades: (Just pitching possible ideas)
Hold parry to parry for 0.5 longer
Hold parry to keep your guard up. But it doesn't stun, only reduces melee damage by 50% (Still goes on cooldown at the end of the guard, regardless of success)
Protects you from one melee hit (20 sec cd) if not parried

Rebuttal should not be effected by resists. Point blank and any bullet resist and the item no longer works as a counter at all if you are behind.

Gib and I have made these statements before and I'll make it again here. Rebuttal is balanced around the fact that it has no upgrade.

If the damage reflect didn't scale up based on the damage you would have taken it would need to be changed into a static amount of damage reflected which would necessarily be a nerf to the item overall.

As it is, Rebuttal is a strong item and part of the cost to it is a slot that doesn't give a lot of other stats. For an 800 soul item, it is over-statted. Pros don't pick it up because people just don't get that many opportunities to get big parries on it and as such it's not very valuable at high level play. At most other levels, though, it's a great item and giving it an upgrade would either necessitate a nerf to Rebuttal or it would result in Rebuttal becoming a new staple like Fortitude is now, or when Ammo Scavenger was.
