Ran into a funny bug! (Reload textures gone?)

Booted up the game for the first time and while playing as Infernus I got these textures when reloading. A burst of red Xs appear, with a checkerboard pattern on them. Thought it was funny! Will see if it happens for other guys, and then going to see if validating the files fixes it. I haven't played this game before, though.

Closed an re-opened the game : No more Xs! I am no longer an X man



but I can now see when reloading. That is convenient.

I think it may be a bug? It appeared during a bot match and after dying, not sure exactly what caused it, but re-watching the death animation did fail as well during that match.
