I was permabanned all the way back in August of 2024, and I still don't know why.
Not to say that there aren't some potential causes of course, I had a hardware issue which caused my wifi connection to drop at random which led to temporary matchmaking bans though I've heard that doesn't lead to permas so it likely couldn't have been that.
There was also the last match I remember playing where my team flamed me really hard and said I was throwing, and I admittedly acted childish and made a sarcastic comment along the lines of "showing them what actually throwing looked like," before promptly leaving the match and cooling off. Which was admittedly extremely stupid and certainly would've looked bad out of context though it felt pretty tame compared to a lot of people who I've seen be far more toxic and not get the hammer dropped on them.
The only other reason I can think of is that apparently if you reported too frequently and they found those reports to be inaccurate you'd apparently catch a ban. But I thought my reports were fairly accurate at least from what I can remember
All of this is to say that logging in one morning to see the "You have Permanently Banned From This Gamemode" text came as a shock. I'm far from perfect but I didn't think my behavior was so egregious as to warrant that.
Of course if Valve thought that based on whatever data they got that I had it coming then I suppose I did as much of a bummer as that as, but this was well before they had implemented any sort of warning systems/lesser measures so I didn't have a chance to be aware of or correct what behavior was at issue.
I'm certainly not owed an explanation, but I would be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating not knowing the Why behind the ban so I can just take my licks and move on. Especially given the changes to how bans are given out and the lack of any kind of formalized appeals system. So I'm just posting this in the fairly unlikely chance that I could get some kind of response, which I would be greatly appreciative of. Thank you to anyone who took the time to hear me out.
