pak01.vpk corrupt - cannot restart game after crash - resulting abandon

My game randomly crashes saying the game failed to validate the integrity of the game file pak01.vpk and then when I attempt to restart, my steam client shows the game "downloading" and stuck at 0%

Scoured subreddits for dota2 and cs2 looking for answers here as well. This issue plagued me in dota2, which leads me to believe it's a source 2 problem. I've seen tons of posts in this forum reporting the issue with no response whatsoever. I've looked everywhere for a dev response including github issues for other games, none found.

Can someone PLEASE acknowledge this? Am I supposed to stop playing the game entirely just so that I don't get permabanned for leaving before it's fixed?

EDIT: After much toil for the last year dealing with this issue in both deadlock and dota 2, I think I'm finally past it. I've seen all types of ways folks have fixed this on the internet, but for me it was replacing my memory. My new setup was a surprise and the parts were picked out by someone else. Turns out that my ram is not on my processor's QVL, and was also failing a few memtest86 tests. I replaced it and have not had a single BSOD or game crash in over two weeks; I was encountering them daily.

I know it's unfortunate because not everyone can just afford to buy new sticks, but for me, it was memory issues. If you have an AMD processor, be sure to check out the AMD QVL here: https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/ryzen-compatible-memory.html. If buying new ram is not an option for you, you may want to look very closely into setting "safe" timings effectively throttling your memory. Can't tell you exactly what to set, but there may be a route here that solves the issue for your.

Hope this helps others even if it's a hard pill to swallow

i got this problem from yesterday a minor update was applied automatically, i cannot even get into game for every time the pak01.vpk error was raised, even reinstall several times and update AMD drivers to latest version cannot help1726750778950.png

Can we please get a workaround so that the game does not get stuck waiting to redownload the broken files?

That would let people at least avoid getting banned.

youre not alone my dude. alot of us are experiencing the same thing. from what ive seen you can try to turn off the shader downloader on Steam itself in the settings. i havent had this work, but others have. the only other solution to not being banned is to log into a private bot match. play around for a bit. then its just praying to the Valve gods that you dont crash in an actual multiplayer game. we just gotta wait and hope that here in the next few weeks the devs can work on a fix of some kind. there are posts like this all over reddit, and in the deadlock forums themselves.

Edited my original post with a description. Turns out my memory was the issue. It was both corrup and also not on my processor's QVL
