In my testing, while in a party with my friends, whenever I accidentally selected too few non-new heroes, the matchmaking timer wouldn't appear, but it'd still count us as being in a queue, despite having no option to cancel matchmaking or start over. The only solution to actually play after this is to leave the lobby.
