New players matchmaking pool

There are a lot of new players coming in now. This has an extremely negative effect on the quality of the matches themselves. Someone just leaving, someone ruin for fun, someone had first game and don't understand whats going on (of cource because tutorials are boring and it is necessary to start the game immediately from the match with other people). I got 100 hours in game and know basic mechanics and strategies (and ofc i also making mistakes sometimes, i'm not perfect), but when i see in one team +- 1-2 players REALLY trying to play this game and +- 4-5 from other team i can say what this isn't normal situation. I literally can't play this game, because there is no competition in the game either. One team is just skating over the other team. Please make matchmaking pool for new players.

Bruh, this isn't a Minecraft or some MLP game, when people just chilling. This is a MOBA shooter, when must be a competitive spirit. No shit, public isn't a TI Grand Finals, but in actual matches don't have any interest for playing
Dude it is a PLAYTEST. Chill it isn’t that serious. If you wanna be sweaty and salty about it wait for ranked in 2 years+. Right now it is supposed to be like this and splitting player base because of salty sweaty players like is is the worse decision possible because it is gonna take longer to find games. Take a chill pill and have fun for once

I think you just don't understand what if don't fix matchmaking problem in near future it will be a problem in release version, when low match quality will discourage ineteres from other players for playing. This problem still haunts DOTA, because they don't fix this in 2011-2013 beta time

I think you just don't understand how PLAYTESTS work, and what's their main purpose. It's not a released product, it's not a place for mastering your skill and grinding. I mean, you can do that, but you'll face an obvious problem: incomprehension from other players.

You can't blame Minecraft Alpha for not having 100s of items and dozens of animals. «Who'll play that? It's not a ready product, it's boring! No content!». I wonder what Alpha means in this context 🤔🤔🤔

Amigo, tranquilo, calma.

Understand that there is no matchmaking now (not the kind of matchmaking you need). You will have to wait for a "proper" matchmaking and competitive ladder or whatever it is that they choose for the game.

If you ask me, splitting the playtest pool already in "tryhard | newcomer" would be counterproductive. This will come in the future for sure.

Instead, you could think of a good and fair matchmaking method, or maybe think about how many ranks/divisions you think the competitive ladder should have, and present it as a suggestion in this forum.

Maybe you could share what you said about DOTA 2 matchmaking with more detail. Or other competitive games that you play, if you find them fair or not, and why.

It's a good time for suggestions and bug hunting, we have the opportunity to be heard.
Fix it first then grind it.

Oh, I thought it was just me who had a bad streak. The whole team plays (relatively) 0/12/4. And no matter how hard you try, you can’t win alone. And so 5 games in a row. On the 6th the opposite situation occurred. I reached the enemy base along my line in about 5 minutes and demolished the shrine, without ever purchasing a single item in the store during this time

Seems like it has been especially bad with the recent patch/wave. I used to play with the same handful of players almost every game. Now it feels like literally any amount of experience is possible on either team.

Playtest. There is no real matchmaking right now. Not a very useful one, anyway.

If you really want to win, play heroes that allow you to carry your team and do your best.
You're not going to carry a team with Abrams. He's too limited without a team to back him up.

Other than that, just accept that players are new. Like we were all once. It's good that there are more players. Despite how frustrating games can be at times.

Bruh it is a play test chill out. it is supposed to have an income of new players. Just don’t take it too seriously
I had a new player abandon because of the matchmaking though. He asked how to play, we were all supportive and giving advice. They died 10 times without a single assist and left the game. They didn't have fun because they were matched into a game with really varying MMR. It's not fun for anyone when that happens especially when laning mechanics are so important a new player has basically no way to comeback or even know how to comeback. This might be part of the testing thing valve is doing, and they will tighten up matchmaking again after they see the results.

This will happen. It's in testing, and will continue to happen. The moment official servers happen, this will happen again. In fact, it will get worse. It's in the nature of testing, and playing video games in general.

They will add ranking, MMR, and/or more in time.

todays matches were extremely weird, pretty much for the first time in 200+ hours of my playtime in deadlock. I did have 0-10+ players in my team 3 times in a row, both duo lanes were lost with 5+ deaths for each player by 10 minutes mark, by the time I realised (around 10th minute when midboss appears) whats going on - we already are behind for like at least 10k souls (and thats not 10k souls at 25s minutes - it's at period when we have 20-25k total and they have 35k+). Then 3 games in a row it's opposite situation when we win withing 15-20 minutes each match and only in last 7th match we had a decent equal match with inetersting teamfights and uncertainty till the end.

I guess my point is: there were huge waves of new players before and it seemed like they all played with each other, while 'veterans' (100+ hours) played in their own 'bracket' mostly. So ye, matchmaking feels a bit broken COMPARED to last couple months

Honestly, I haven't played much, but it feels like this game can't have duo lanes, or this exact things happens. Scaling goes hard mid-late, and tanks are king.

I think the orb air time for taking the extra souls should be extended by 3s at the start, and scales down as the game goes on, maybe buff stamina on items?

---

I think people should try to be more flexible, every game I've won the team sacrificed two lanes, and took two lanes, and we counter contested bases, until a certain point where one team had to defend their base.

A lot of lane swapping, 3-man in a single lane that went even for 10-15m, and push up to walker instantly.

MOBA in this perspective is rare, Smite is the closest.

yes, big waves of new players these days since the invite system update.

I reported a guy today because he paused the match for minutes after dying, two times, causing his entire team to leave eventually at min 10.
then checked the replay and saw that he was asking how to unpause, nobody on his team knew how. It seemed like it was his first match. Felt bad reading the chat afterwards. I hope the report is denied.

but still, I don't think the player pool needs a split right now.

the sensible thing, in my opinion, would be to have new players complete a few bot matches after the tutorial. Alternatively, if someone clicks on "Play Deadlock - Standard Match" without completing the tutorial or bot matches, a warning should pop up about how their experience, as well as that of eleven other people, is at stake for the next 15 to potentially 60 minutes.
