I've had a recurring issue where I will be disconnected routinely from games and have my network driver become disabled requiring my PC to be restarted, often times causing me to be considered abandoned. This is... rather infuriating. I have since solved the issue, with half a dozen matches without the issue.
Example match id 34170030 I am "Phoenix" as Holliday (pls buff). Occurs at ~21min.
This appears to occur while no other major network traffic is occurring on the device... discord calls, YouTube videos, downloads, and the like appear to stave off the problem, and it is also required that windows is looking to conserve power, so your power plan (in Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options) should be either Balanced or Power Saver. I was using Balanced (the default)
Here's a link to a reddit post which I suspect has the same issue based on his results from running ipconfig
Replication steps:
Notes:
Use high power hardware and high usage of said hardware. 80/90 class nvidia GPUs paired with a strong processor that draw 350+w while deadlock is running will make this easier. I switched from a 3070 to a 5080 before starting to have this issue and i use a 7800X3D CPUs, although I suspect Intel CPUs will replicate this more often. Unlock the framerate and use high settings as a bonus.
Windows install: A brand new windows install is configured correctly to cause the issue. I recommend this if you're trying to replicate.
1. Empty startup apps list and restart PC to kill most background processes
2. start steam and deadlock only. make sure steam won't try to download or update things while you're replicating.
3. Load into an online match of deadlock - I tried to use bot matches to replicate the issue, but I was unsuccessful.
4. wait 20-30min. It happened in about ~2/3 of the games I played while conditions were optimal.
5. Observe problem by being disconnected
6. go to network adapter list and see your adapter listed as "disabled"
7. to fix the issue, restart the pc.
7a. Theoretically re-enabling the device should work, but it never did for me.
The problem:
Windows wants to save you power, and it can disable devices to achieve this. No new connections have opened recently on the ethernet driver, so despite the fact it's very actively being used, it seems like a good candidate.
The solution (for players):
Go to device manager and find your network adapter.
right click the device and hit properties
go to power management
uncheck "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power"
Unsuccessful troubleshooting steps:
BIOS reflash and update
Driver reinstalls:
Ethernet / Bluetooth / Chipset / PCIE Encryption
Deadlock reinstall
Windows system file repairs (SFC & DISM)
