Using Retreat with quick cast and instant cast results in the same functionality; skill does not active until the button is released. I would expect Instant cast to trigger Retreat in a similar manner as Rake. When using Quick cast the little bat icon appears while the Retreat key is pressed, however during Instant Cast there is no bat icon while the Retreat key is pressed, so something is changing when this option is edited. Both methods activate similarly when the key lifts back up.
Might be related to self/alt cast affecting Retreat which prevents Instant cast from working when you have double tap to alt cast enabled.
