Matchmaking is broken since the update, Screenshots Attached

Since the update, matchmaking has felt way more lopsided than normal variance. I’m not talking about close losses. I mean repeated games where 2 to 3 players on one team are clearly outmatched and end up hard-feeding. I’m dropping a few screenshots from my recent matches because it’s been a consistent pattern.

I’m not trying to blame random teammates. Everyone has bad games. The issue is how often these extreme outliers are showing up in the same lobby post-patch, and it makes matches feel decided early.

Curious if anyone else is seeing this since the update. If there was an MMR reset or queue change that explains it, I’d love to know. Otherwise it feels like team seeding is off right now.

Matchmaking felt off before the update as well, but its even worse now. If they silently did an MMR hard reset then this will resolve over time but I'd hope that would have been communicated.

Even before the update new and returning players were often being placed way too high in the ranked system. My assumption is that is relatively representative of their MMR. I had many friends who played the game over a year ago a few times (have less than 15 games played) that were placed in Oracle. They just get destroyed game after game because they don't even know how to play yet, eventually giving up and dropping the game.

After the patch I'm seeing more 'new' players in my games, which are around emissary level according to the match end screen. I am by no means a super great player but I have 300+ games played with a well above 50% winrate. Putting brand new players in my games against me or my opponents is a recipe for disaster on all accounts. I assume most of these 'new' players are actually returning players who never actually learned how to play, just tried it a few times way back when.

Just a suggestion:
If MMR was not reset, I'd suggest to the devs a hard reset of ranks and MMR. At least targeting players with <100 games played or something. Yes there could be some short term pains caused by this, but new and especially returning players badly need this. And the ranked distribution for players with <100 games should be heavily skewed towards the bottom 3 ranks.

I think it would at least really benefit the community if there was some messaging about this topic from the devs. There are a lot of people trying to get their friends into Deadlock right now and the uncertainty around the matchmaking, whether real or not, is impacting people's experience.

i have been feeling this extremely hard, and for some reason its always the people on MY team who are outmatched, i mean hell i was put against a team that was "seeker 4" while my team was initiate 3, everyone on my teams have been feeding and its making the game unbearable to play, there should be a competitive mode or something because it feels like a lot of the people on my team are playing casually or trying to make a super offmeta build, i had a rem on my team build titanic magazine, feels like actual bot lobbies but worse

An MMR hard reset or a rank reset is absolutely needed. I'm stuck in like Alchemist III (although I really should be placed around there anyway), because I've been playing matches on and off since scheduled testing back in 2024, and like I'm getting placed in matches on rare occasions with people in like Emissary or Ritualist, and I'm getting absolutely shit on. Maybe it's matchmaking, maybe it's a skill issue, but I should be placed with people around my rank or slightly lower or slightly higher, not two to three whole ranks above me.

yeah idk this is absurd i feel like im at a lower rank than i should be i just played silver for the first time with barely any knowledge of her kit or what to build, i got the most kills on my team and pushed the most objectives, my team was in their jungle while the enemy team was practically at our patron, there needs to be a ranked and casual system, deadock is a competitive game at its core, it should do something like league where you shouldnt be able to play ranked until you reach a level or amount of playtime or a skill ceiling or something, the ammount of players on my team are almost ALWAYS at a lower skill rating than the enemy team, and on the rare occasion that it is the other way around its still a completely unfun and unfufilling game, what is the point of playing it man? whats the point of the "competitive matchmaking" option in the settings? Why should higher skilled players have to babysit the entire match? and why should lower skilled players be forced to fight someone with 2000 hours? its fucking insane

So this might be a tough pill to swallow but if its lopsided, you didn't do enough. If one lane is hard losing and you're winning your lane then you need to do more. It's what the other team is doing. The carrys on other team probably know how to gank and farm better so in a few more matches you're going to be playing alongside people around your skill level.

Dude... As of 5 matches ago I was emissary 5 and felt I was over ranked, got carried for 5 matches in a row (don't know what I'm doing half the time) and now the game thinks I'm oracle. This is blatantly broken and needs the be a priority right now in my opinion.

At least from my experience it appears its way easier to rank up then to rak down. Also not sure if this plays a part in this but I only came back to the game recently (a few weeks before the big update) from a long break (like year or so).

hey i have over 100 games with close to a 50% winrate and i barely ever rank up. i will rank down every loss but it will take at least 5 wins to rank up. id like to be where youre at but nah.

The matchmaking is broken beyond recognition. I'm continually put into games that are like 5 kills vs 50 kills.

Smurfs are a big part of the problem and one that valve isn't currently interested in tackling, I guess. Almost every single game is dominated by a smurf going like 20-1.

They need to do what they did years ago and restrict stacks to 3 people maximum. Game quality took an absolutely insane dive after they started allowing 4-5 stacks.

Same here, back then when you had to play 10 games to be ranked, I was placed ritualist and game felt great and balanced most of the time. Then I got ranked in Alchimist, back to riutalist, emissary and now oracle... Even tho I win less than 50% of my games... I still climb those rank for no reason :(

I just played a 45 Min Game where we were falling a lot but we started to come back and gain advantage. Then two players 2-17 and 0-9 left the game... Basically new players, if they had stayed we could have won this. So sad... We are reported them but I am not sure what the report system does here.

tell me.. i keep losing and i cant do anything about it, i give my best...
every match looks like this...

The state of matchmaking is so bad that I've decided to quit playing again until they announce a fix. It's lead to some of the least fun games I have EVER been in... and I played overwatch... :(( Hopeful that this is being looked into, but prepping myself for disappointment and another year and a half (or more) of forgetting this game in my library. To build up all the momentum and hype with the recent update and then to have the state of games like this?? It's disappointing.

I get arcanist players in my phantom lobbies constantly, its so boring to play and I learn nothing from these games

These types of matches are very normal in Mobas in general but to your actual question:

For the most part, my matchmaking has been great since the xmas patch has ended. Not all games but the majority feel "balanced". My lobbies are the same as you have posted here, mid-oracle to low phantom.

I think its the general influx of players for the new heroes and maybe im getting lucky. As the excitement dies down and people inevitably leave till the next big thing, I expect MM to slowly start dropping.

I also believe that its more often a hero power lobsided issue not a MM issue. Had a match where warden got a couple kills in lane and just became literally unkillable and going something stupid like 35/2. Or a shiv just getting free execute resets and wiping a team. Sometimes its comp issue. One team has every team fight ult and my team has only single target pick heroes and 0 aoe.

I think there are multiple issues at play but at the moment, my MM feels decent.

I have 1300 games just on calico alone, my overall win rate is a little over 51%, my lobbies are high oracle-low phantom.

My overall account rank? Archon 5. Like what? Thats crazy, ive had so many lobbies 6-10 ranks higher than what my actual rank is but the game refuses to rank my account up.

God forbid I have a poor day, im tired or dont feel good but I want to play (thank thor for brawl), because if i lose 2-3 games it WILL rank me down.

The ranking system is so bad I put in an official feedback complaint about it the other day. (no one has looked at it)
