Matchmaking applies "high skill gap" too liberally

Something in the recent updates has effectively killed my ability to duo queue with a friend because it treats us as a "high skill range party". He's a better player than me, but I definitely held my own in our matches before - unfortunately, due to the exclusive matching with other parties with the same designation, we just played a bunch of games with a bunch of people who absolutely did not belong in the same match, like a Yamato who died 3 times in the first 4 minutes and ended up 0/13/7. This feels very overly generalized, such that even potentially problematic parties get thrown in a dumpster with no good matchmaking support. I hope this gets changed soon.

Anyone else having a similar experience lately?

Yes, this change basically made all the games my friend and I played over the weekend unbearable.

agreed, my boyfriend is a higher skilled player than me but i can also hold my own in matches as well. i have not won a match since the 26th. we get paired up with people who tower dive and feed the enemy team before the ten minute mark is even up. it genuinely makes the game not enjoyable anymore.

I play in a group of friends who are usually a 6 stack, and we don't even know who the problem person is / are. We just know that we always get in the 'wide range' match making and as soon as one person calls it a night we can't queue with 5 so we have to kick someone out. It sucks.

I am going through a similar issue and my duo and I are not exactly high-ranked players, my friend has not started to play Ranked yet and I have the rank of "Alchemist" (xd) but when we play as a duo we get smashed constantly and not only us but all our team

After the 15th of October it's been so unbearable to play this game. Losing atleast 80% of my matches. I get the whole "if you improve you can carry" mentality but it's downright exhausting to watch the entire team constantly just lose over and over again for half a month straight. There's only so much you can do when the entire enemy team is better than all your teamates as an average.

Yup in general this made all my games miserable, even my wins. Also because I'm really good at one character, I can only play that character, if I try anything new (even for like 5+ losses in a row) my MMR stays way higher than it should be because I had a really good streak on 1 character.

My friend isn't that much worse than me either, yet somehow we still get the wide range message. I understand it with my other friends who don't play as much as us but unless we play solo, we can no longer have fun.

It does NOT try to match equally, it just chooses the highest skill player and matches the whole enemy team to that (at least it feels like it). If I play with 1-2 bad friends the enemy team should have at least 1 player who is bad IMO.

I ended up always having to play dynamo so we had a 10% chance of winning off of a good dynamo ult.

The game has become way to try hard with pre teams of 4-6. Everyone on the enemy team is better than us in lane.
