Lengthy pauses when flipping between heroes

If you go to the hero browsing section, select a hero, click the "background" tab at the top, and then click the left or right arrows at the edge of the screen, sometimes the application process locks up for several seconds.

During this time, the next character's ability icons and picture aren't visible. Also, sometimes Windows grays out the window and asks if you'd like to wait or kill the application.

If you're using vulkan, that's due to shader compilation.
