The idea for 'Spirit Guard' is to act as an enhancement to one's parry, granting a large bonus of spirit resistance while parrying. It would also have the secondary effect of extending the duration of this spirit resistance alongside refreshing your parry if one successfully parries a melee attack or takes damage from an attack that does at least 150 spirit damage while parrying.
