I used his actual name so people wouldn't roll their eyeballs at the concept, but
-1949-1968 is exactly the amount of time between 2 generations
-We know there's supernatural events in TF2.
-It'd explain his canonical ability to hold 26 jobs at once.
-People really want a blast jumping character and the family trade of the Degroots is demoman. And sticky jumping would be significantly less disruptive to the meta than rocket jumping like a Soldier would
-He doesn't even have to be explicitly related to TF2, it could just be like a neat easter egg that that guy's last name happens to be Degroot and that he uses explosives.
