The Lord is designed to be an area denial/cc Tank, boasting big damage potential and a good chunk of resistances, at the cost of being painfully slow compared to other heros, making quick position adjustments much more difficult.
This is lessened somewhat by him having a much higher jump and a unique dash, a short range teleport that can go in any direction, both of which I will go into more detail here.
His normal jump is actually different than other characters, not being an instant 'press space and jump' like everyone else. Instead, he has a little half-second wind up before jumping. Now, here's the specifics on how high he can get with it.
Let's say the Lord is in mid lane and wants to get from below to on top of the bridge. Now most characters would need to double jump to reach it, and even then they would need to mantle to get up there.
The Lord is able to make it up there without a double jump OR a mantle, and has some room to spare. Of course that's only if the angle is right, chances are he's still gonna have to mantle.
And then his dash. It's somewhat like Dynamo's quantam entanglement, however it's faster (1 second instead of 1.4s), goes about 10m max (cant be increased with items, unlike quantam entanglement), cannot be used to bring allies with you and does not provide any buffs. The other thing is, it doesn't let you dash jump, it's just the dash teleport. So items like kinetic dash and arcane surge cannot be used on him.
And now for his kit!
In essence, the Lord is built for area denial and cc, able to keep a close eye on enemies and keep them contained in areas he wants them, while having just enough raw damage to be able to deal with those who manage to push through his defenses. And the soul split thing is kinda there for funnies.
And if push comes to shove, he can turn the tides in combat by making a portion of the map his domain (cant be used in bases), albeit with a long cooldown.
So yeah he's a slow brute with area denial and CC. Also he's kind of a dick to everyone.
