Having some arbitrary line about being rude to others is weird. Someone could get mad for being called dumb, because in his childhood his mother used to call him dumb and that triggers him, another guy couldn't care less if you wish death upon his mother, because he hates her.

What a wild thing to say about being insulted. "Harden up", by that logic masochists are the hardest people in the world. There is nothing "hard" about being called "N-word F-word (slur for homosexuals)"

Another thing is how you completely ignored the part where I mentioned I didn't report everyone who had slurs in the names or were toxic.

Go outside and "shit talk" someone, when you get clocked in the mouth, tell him it is just a part of life, let's see if that helps.

First, obviously racial slurs, death threats, self-deletion, etc has no place in games. Everyone agrees with that, so you're arguing a point that is 99.999% accepted by everyone on this forum.

However, suggesting we need to consider peoples past trauma when using words like "dumb" is ludicrous. Sure, it's not the best way to express yourself, but it's not a big deal. Anyone having a meltdown because someone called them dumb on the internet needs help, and I say that with all the respect in the world.

I always tell people to "consider the source" before you take offense to something. Is the person criticizing you someone you look up to, or a random troll on the internet? That's how you weigh their words.

Honestly with how weak handed Valve is about slurs I think they are low key totally fine with it. Otherwise they would have zero tolerence or at least have a basic system that would auto mute anyone who uses a slur. I understand the game is in very early development but I never played a game that seems so lax about this kind of behavior.

There are some words which should be an auto ban, whether in your name or chat (voice much more difficult i assume).

There is 0 use for like 10+ words in any context, in or out of the game.
Doesnt have to be an extreme filter or high tech solution tbh lol just remove the main words with no use in any context.

Same. I think it auto disables reporting if you report a certain number of people in a certain timeframe.

Im pretty sure it disables report if you report people that noone else reports too often. So a good practice is to always queue with at least 2 friends and triple report. This gets around the problem of getting your report function taken away and also guarantees a ban on the reported player.

Zero tolerance about anything is stupid. Permanent banns are stupid. I believe individuals SHOULD be reprimanded for their bad behaviors but not permanent anything. Saying it in a jovial way with your friends. That's a context where it's perfectly acceptable to say any word. Either all of it is okay, or none of it is okay. I don't say any insulting words, yet im still tired about it being 2024 and being told that I can't say certain things with my friends otherwise the AI bot that doesn't understand nuance will straight up ban me with zero prior warning or notice.

slurs in name shouldnt be an ingame report unless they are using said slurs in chat or voice comms. its something steam has to deal with or have some filter who cant stand said slurs. i honestly got so numb to such stuff i just refer people in game based on chars and my eyes dont even look at names out of habit. its weird u are just reporting people for their names. there are some slurs which mean different based on which region they are from etc etc
i wonder if streamer mode will just disable names.
