How come Viper's boomerang is now a knife?

One of my favorite unreleased voicelines was this one from Seven:

I think the boomerang was fine. It was a bit sillier for sure, but the dude is a lizard! I'd expect him to be a bit eccentric with his choice of weapon. Let him throw a boomerang again!

Viper and Kali are not the same hero , Viper just uses Kalis model as a temp.

viper’s 1 is functionally a boomerang but in game is a hooked dagger, primarily a makeshift prison shank

the character is a career criminal that takes the fall for other crooks then breaks out of jail

The knife model could be placeholder, but I could see the devs deciding that a boomerang is too silly. Time will tell, I guess.
