Introduction
Hi, I’m Eric! I’ve been playing deadlock ever since its release and I absolutely love the stunning game and world that Valve is creating and improving upon with every new update that comes out.
I’ve always loved artist representation in video games and I feel like the Cursed Apple could use some repainting >
So without further ado, I’d like to thank all of my friends and fellow players for helping me flesh out his design.
[NOTE: I’m not a really good artist and I’m currently without a functioning drawing tablet, so all of the art you’ll see is done with paper, mouse and scuffed in-game references. So don't expect it to be the next Mona Lisa, I apologise in advance lmao. Anyway, enjoy reading.~~]

Lore
“The greatest of artists suffer in the past to become timeless forever.”
Born too late to have any meaningful relationship with his sick and old single father, the only things that he gave Alex F. Noli, or more commonly known by his “stage name” of Hex, was a lonely life and enough money to live a poor, monotonous and unexceptional life in Florida. Growing up moving from dead end job to the next and steadily developing multiple mental illnesses due to prolonged isolation and lack of meaningful connections, tragedy was a part of Hex’s life, but the brief moments of happiness and dream of one day having his works share museums with works of the greats would blend into a determination for using his hard-learned skill of artomancy magic, the mystical ability of turning art into reality, for good. However, as his pent up negative fester in the back of his mind, a lingering shade inside his psyche bides its time, waiting for the right time to emerge.
Hex was already starving, struggling with rent, and without anyone to truly call his friend. But suddenly, one day, a mugger tried to shake him for whatever little money he had.
Everything went black— And once he came back to his senses, it was already too late.
He went from feeling a mixture of sickness, guilt, fear…To a sudden yet subtle wave of awe, catharsis and pleasure from the massacre in front of him.
Such blooming colors of ink mixing with the mugger’s blood, beautiful arc of his spine aligning with the golden ratio, and shining anatomy of the corpse’s muscles splayed out like spider’s web. It was probably the best piece of art he’s ever made, or at least that’s what his intrusive thoughts attempted to convince him.
Revolted by these disgusting thoughts, Hex quickly fled the scene and moved to New York. He vowed to do anything he can to have a better life, so that his cursed desire for suffering disguised as passion and love for art will never take a hold of him.
Personality
Hex is kinda going through a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ situation with himself. So sometimes he might talk as a caring, kind and calm gentleman— And other times talk like a sadistic, violent and malicious psycho. The road to improvement is a hard one, especially for my little tragic art hobo <\3.
Gameplay
Playstyle
“I’ll SEE THAT YOU’RE ALL PAINTED BLACK AS NIGHT!”
Hex is like a flower: Although delicate, the right care allows him to bloom into a beautiful member of the team who can fill out any gaps his team might have. Be careful though, much like every artist, Hex is not a complete master at what he does and relies on his team the same way they rely on him.
With charges on all of the non-ultimate abilities, Hex will paint a portrait of his enemies downfall with an overwhelming barrage of spells and cross them off in black with his ultimate.
Gun Details
The Paintbrush - Hex’s gun is his left forearm.
As an artomancer, sacrifice is a big element when it comes to use. Which is why Hex decided to clawed holes into his arm as a means to store paint, so that he’d always be prepared.
The way it fires is a combination of Mcginnis’ and bebop’s guns. It starts off as a medium range automatic volley of paint that steadily ramps up in speed until it becomes a powerful close range beam.
[If he would be a real hero, I’d have everything in Hex’s kit leave some slight residue paint across the map for a moderate duration. Depending on the paint color, it will mix with other stuff in his kit to create color combinations.]
Abilities
[NOTE: All AP upgrades with X as their numbers indicate that I don’t have numbers set in stone for them.]
“The first time I felt real anger was when a seagull stole my brunch bagel outside an art gallery.”
Red Wellspring: Throw a ball of red paint in a vertical arc that deals spirit damage and applies movement slow to enemies in a small radius. When the ball hits a wall or enemy, it will turn into a puddle and detonate after a delay, dealing spirit damage.
(Can be alt casted to arc horizontally instead)
[The arc corresponds to the Golden Ratio. Meaning should the projectile not hit any thing, it will start turning back and rotating until diffusing into normal paint.]
Ultimate Unlock: Stack deals spirit damage and applies a burn that deals spirit damage over time.

1 AP: +Xm Radius
3 AP: +X Charges, Enemies struck by puddles will be popped into the air
5 AP: Puddles will detonate two additional times and apply -5 spirit resistance per hit
“MY SUFFERING WILL BE THEIR SUFFERING.”
Blue Grasp: Throw a bolt of blue ink, spirit damage and pulling an enemy and all enemies around them towards Hex.
(Can be alt casted to pull Hex towards an ally)
Ultimate Unlock: Stack deals spirit damage and silences movement abilities.

1 AP: -Xs Cooldown
3 AP: +X Charges, Enemies on the air are stunned for 0.5s if they hit the ground
5 AP: On Pull: +Xm Range, -X% Movement Slow for Xs
“I’m ashamed knowing the only thing I did after killing somebody was run away.”
Yellow Retreat: Throw a spray of yellow ink, knocking back and dealing spirit damage to all targets in front of you. Gain bonus fading movement speed.
(Can be alt casted to push allies away)
Ultimate Unlock: Stack deals spirit damage and applies damage reduction.
[Basically like Venator's Gutshot but it pushes people further away and doesn't stun on wall.]
1 AP: +Xs Duration
3 AP: +X Charges, Hit enemies lose 1 Stamina
5 AP: Projectiles hit with the spray are blasted back [Like Pyro air blast from TF2]
“EVERY PAINTING NEEDS A CANVAS, THEIR BODY WILL SUFFICE.”
Black Finale: Activate to channel for a brief period, then detonate all color stacks. Activating all three stacks on an enemy amplifies their effects.
Passive: Abilities apply special stacks with varying effects.

[Doodle of how the stacks look like when detonated]
1 AP: -X Cooldown
3 AP: +50 health gain for every stack detonated on enemies
5 AP: +200 bonus amplification

Interactions
Hex’s communication skill is like an asocial person forcing himself to be more talkative. He’s forward and awkward, sometimes even off-putting.
Despite his little wealth, he has managed to garner a great deal of knowledge through loyal connections, which is why he may sometimes respond to heroes in their native language or even know things that not many should know.
Here I have an example of how he would talk. The writing was made by me none other than the amazing PinkyBowTie (the maker of another Deadlock OC, Blight)!
With Blight:
[1]
BLIGHT: “You better serve me well, mortal.”
HEX: “Usually when people beg they offer something in return, but I’ll think about your request.”
BLIGHT: “Beg? Ha! Humanity’s stupidity truly knows no bounds.”
HEX: “You’re a genocidal god stripped of divinity and came all the way to New York in desperation so that you can wish from the Patrons to regain your lost godhood. In human terms, that’s called ‘begging’.
BLIGHT: “Then let me tell you this: In human terms, I’m going to take millennia torturing you once this is over.”
[2]
HEX: “I’ve seen you in my dreams. The real you, that is.”
BLIGHT: “The fact that you haven’t killed yourself in a maddened stupor tells me that you most certainly haven’t.”
HEX: “You were the size of mountains, what else could that have been other than your true form?”
BLIGHT: “Ooh, perhaps you did see it. Congratulations mortal, your feeble mind almost impresses me.”
[3]
HEX: “I’m surprised you of all people would be participating in the ritual.”
BLIGHT: “Don’t talk to me, worm!”
HEX: “Ah. It seems I’ll enjoy pAINTING A PICTURE OF YOUR CORPSE.”
Here’s some examples with actual heroes:
With Dynamo:
[1]
DYNAMO: How’s the search for the robber who stole your acrylic paint?
HEX: Ugh, don’t remind me.
DYNAMO: That bad, huh?
HEX: I swear, the moment I find that asshole I’m gonNA SLASH HIS NECK AN-
DYNAMO: Deep breaths, Alex.
HEX: inhales… exhales. I’m sorry.
DYNAMO: Don’t be. You’re getting better at it.
With Victor:
[1]
HEX: You’re perfect.
VICTOR: Excuse me?
HEX: Model, you’re a perfect model. Could you come by my studio to help with some reference once this is over?
VICTOR: …Sure, why not?
Trivia
- Hex's name derives from 'hex codes' in art and the fact that his life is pretty cursed. His previous names were India (referring to India Ink), Chroma and Splatt.- Hex is very big on separating personal identity with art, which is why he covers his head with paint and uses a "stage name".
- Hex is 6'2, but is very thin for his size due to malnutrition.
[I don't have anymore in mind lolololol. If anyone has any questions about my boy I'd love to answer them though.]
