This is my pitch for a magic, teleport-y type wizard who plays more of a support role. His 'gun' is him firing magical projectiles from his hands, although those projectiles are very similar to those of a gun, just with slightly slower bullet velocity.
Ability 1: This ability unlocks the option to switch his 'gun' from hurting enemies to healing friendlies. The amount of healing scales just like gun damage does (although the amount it heals and the amount it deals damage isn't necessarily the same, that will come down to balancing). Shooting an enemy while in healing mode does nothing, and vice versa. Activating this ability toggles it between modes.
Ability 2: Activates a front-facing shield that reflects any projectiles shot at it. This is like a more powerful, directional version of return fire. This ability has a charge to it that refills over time. I activate the shield by holding the ability button to keep it up, as long as I have charge for it. While I have the shield up, I can't fire my gun. This encourages me to quickly pull my shield up and down, trying to beat the opponent with mind-games to get them to shoot at themselves when I have the shield up.
Ability 3: Chain lightning orb. Just like the BFG from the Doom games, this ability launches a projectile through the air that does damage to enemies that are standing near it. This ability can instead have an effect like slowing the enemies though, should the character need more CC to be viable.
Ability 4 (ult): Spawns a teleport portal into the world. Pretty self-explanatory. You can have two in the world at a time, and they despawn automatically after a certain amount of time. It's like Doctor Strange's ability from Marvel Rivals, except it can't be cast across the map. I don't think it needs to have the seamless portal visuals like it does in Marvel Rivals (or Portal), but it would be a nice visual flourish if they decided to add that shader in.
I think this character would be a cool amalgamation of what I consider to be the best/coolest support abilities/archetypes I've seen in other games. Having a steampunky, New Yorky sorcerer would be very rad visually as well, in my opinion. While we have Magician, that's a very different vibe in my eyes.
I'd love to get some feedback on this idea! What do you think?
