With the current setting, I think it could be really interesting to have a hero with masks that can change play styles on the fly by switching masks, with each stance having weaknesses or something avoiding the need to be too op. Maybe the voice lines and personality could change as mask is changed too.
The story backstory could be that of an antiques seller, someone stumbling on cursed items, etc... There are many different cultures that have masks with very different cultural elements tied to them. Whether it goes with a unique culture (asian, african, european with venetian masks) or a mix, it could be very interesting on both the gameplay and artistic side.
