Hero Concept: The Gunsmith

The Gunsmith is able to copy an enemy or ally's gun for a long duration. Similarly to Sinclair's ultimate to copy an ultimate temporarily.

In terms of balance, not sure if the hero should actually be able to copy the gun for a very long duration (5 minutes) or for around 1 minute.

This hero should be able to steal a hero's gun during the laning phase to maybe encourage a stronger laning phase where you can copy the enemy's gun or your ally's gun for better last hitting on souls. However, this may result in people trying to copy heroes' guns from other lanes - even at the start which could be very bad gameplay. (like copying a gun at the zipline start and then returning to your assigned zipline).

Although ironic, the gunsmith's gun should be very bad but not as bad as Paige's gun - even though her gun is pretty good in certain aspects. Perhaps it is a bolt-action gun, but decent projectile speed but not 'instant'.

Not sure how the animators would go about this without swapping the model as well (maybe during the temp. phase) but the appearance of the copied gun should be shown on the hero. (like the Hero is holding Bebop's gun arm or Paige's books or Sinclair's wand).

I guess it would also suck if the hero is able to copy the enemy's/ally's gun without their passive so this might just end up being a pseudo Morphling without being able to copy abilities as well... However, I think the hero should also be able to copy passives as well as their gun!

Upon copying a gun, the gunsmith can swap between their gun and the copied gun(?). Each with their independent ammo, so you can switch out of a gun to a loaded gun or switch back and use Quick Silver Reload to reload a gun.

Just for reference, I have made hero concepts 'similar' to this hero before and I will leave them in this thread for other brainstorming ideas:

- Morphling in Deadlock:

- Gun Voker (Invoker in Deadlock + 'Aphelios' from league of legumes):

- Gordon Freeman (Source-style multiple guns hero):

Thanks for reading! Hopefully these are some good brainstorming ideas.

Definitely some inspiration from the Master of Arms from HoN:

who is actually kinda like Kez...

Although I'm probably dreaming, I wish the 'Gun Voker/Gordon Freeman' (A hero concept with multiple guns) and 'The Gunsmith/Morphling' (Hero that can copy guns) would exist both such that we can experience a hero changing between guns and the gunsmith/morphling copying different dynamic guns as well!

However, that would be a lot of work and probably terrible balancing/not super fun? I don't know! (Since every new hero after would have to be added towards their arsenal of guns... The janitor would not enjoy that Kappa)

I actually had another idea last night...

So basically there's a 'shop' located in a centralized neutral area/zone that holds the gunsmith/gun dealer. Essentially, it works as the Call of Duty Pack-a-Punch where you would spend a large amount of your souls to permanently upgrade your gun for the rest of the game. Sort of working like a permanent Aghanim's upgrade but only for your guns.

When you go to upgrade your item, potentially it takes like 20 seconds for the interaction to complete and during that time you are disarmed until the gun dealer upgrades your gun where you have new upgrades that improve your quality of life for a gun.

The gun dealer doesn't open his shop until after 15 minutes? to prevent players from saving up all game to just go for a gun upgrade instead of purchasing items to win their lane or the game. Maybe he also doesn't open shop until the Midboss is killed and closes shop again when the Midboss is alive.

Perhaps there could be different types of upgrades for your gun, but you can only choose 1? or throughout the game maybe you can choose any upgrade.

Upgrade examples:

- Bebop's gun no longer has a charge animation thing and the range is significantly longer.

- Bebop's gun laser is larger, like instead of a laser its like a large beam, deals penetrating damage like Paige's gun.

- Paige no longer fires magical arrows but changes to fire magical bullets, significantly increasing her bullet velocity and damage in exchange for large AOE arrows.

- Sinclair's wand gun gets changed back to his original gun, the Legerdemain.

- Sinclair's wand gets upgraded to have like a little star on the tip which gives it the ability to have a larger AOE projectile like a star that penetrates?

- Mcginnis's gun does not need to wind-up to reach maximum firerate and is permanently.

- Mcginnis's gun does not have a maximum firerate limit and can continously gain firerate.

- Holliday's Pistol gets upgraded to reload like Abram's gun where he can reload and shoot mid reload.

- Holliday's Pistol gets upgraded to have shotgun projectiles but also more concentrated and long range - like Abram's gun but better.

- Pocket's gun is improved to be more concentrated bullets and significantly longer range.

- Mina's gun gets upgraded to be an automatic pistol like the CZ-75 from Counter-Strike 2/CS:GO.

- Vindicta's gun gets changed to deal significantly more damage but consumes more bullets also at at a significantly reduced fire rate (Basically a sniper gun)

- Billy's gun is more accurate and has a larger base magazine.

- Victor's gun shoots poison/rusted nails that deal DOT spirit damage on targets that it hits.

- Drifter's 'gun' fingernail guns shoots with on-spirit effects(?) - like Mina's passive.

- Dynamo's gun/bullets are gravitated towards an enemy like that one hero that's currently in Hero Labs/test heroes.

- Paradox's gun is improved to be not semi-automatic and becomes fully automatic.

- Kelvin's gun is improved to shoot Ice Spikes.

I think you guys get the idea! Hopefully its a good idea and I know if you intend to implement this there will be way better and fitting ideas than what I've provided.
