Records disagree on her original name, and most of them stop abruptly at the same address. The Baroness Hotel. A luxury establishment once renowned for its immaculate service, its unwavering etiquette, and its unsettling ability to make even the most powerful guests feel… observed. Employees spoke of impossible floor plans, of corridors that corrected themselves, of rooms that seemed to respond to behavior rather than keys. Complaints were rare. Those who did complain were rarely invited back.
When the Maelstrom reached the New York, The Baroness, did not survive the event in any conventional sense. Instead, the building persisted — sealed within a pocket of distorted space, bound not by physics but by expectation. Cleanliness. Order. Conduct. These concepts, enforced obsessively during her life, became structural laws in death. The hotel endured because it had rules, and those rules were absolute.
At some point, the Baroness returned. Whether she was reconstructed by the Patrons, pulled back by the gravity of her own domain, or simply never left at all is unclear. What is clear is that she no longer merely owns the hotel — she embodies its principles. She moves through the city with the same quiet authority she once commanded behind a reception desk, correcting imbalance with a glance, punishing excess not with rage, but with consequence.
The Baroness does not seek devotion, worship, or admiration. She expects compliance. In her presence, actions are weighed, reputations are formed, and disorder is remembered. She has little patience for improvisation, sentimentality, or reckless power, viewing them as stains that spread if left unchecked.
