This is a rough concept for a character inspired by the 1939 Purple Gloves version of Batman that uses a gun. The idea for this came about after realizing that the time period of this game is set right at the start of the Golden Age of Comics. I don't care if this specific concept gets in, I just think there should be a character based on Golden Age Superheroes given how much fun it would be to have a character like that in this game. Given everything, it would be a wasted opportunity to not have a character like that. Visual inspiration would come from Golden Age Heroes like The Phantom, the Original Green Lantern Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, The Spectre, and of course Batman and Superman.
Character: Patron Saint, The Man blessed by the Patrons to protect New York.
Bio: James Renaldson was the typical Fairfax weapons researcher; intelligent and deprived of moral obligation. He had spent many years in research on kinetic energy technology learning unique ways to kill a man. His specialty was in storing kinetic energy for mobility, disruption, and outright lethal damage with energy binding wards.
He probably would've continued on that path had it not been for the day he saw a kid about to get hit by a car on his way to work. He sprung into action and managed to sweep the kid out of the way in the knick of time. For the first time in a decade, James felt alive. When the kid said he was like the hero in their comic book, he knew his calling. With some re-appropriated proprietary technology and a fancy costume, James was soon patrolling the streets as Patron Saint! It wasn't his idea for a superhero persona, but the preexisting branding certainly helped him spread terror amongst the small timers running around the Cursed Apple.
However, he soon found that technology alone can only help so much in the fight against crime. Now he turns to the Patrons to gain real powers and give his title legitimacy.
Weapon and Abilities:
Blammerang: A boomerang enchanted to allow the user to fire energy bolts with it. It's a boomerang gun.
Ability 1) Adaptive Mobility System: The costume's cape and a pair of belt mounted propulsion units allow for advanced aerial movement. Hold space while mid air to glide, functions like sliding but in the air. Upgrades allow you to aim your melee while in mid air and grant bonus air dodges and double jumps.
Ability 2) Smoke Bomb: Toss down a smoke bomb that stuns momentarily if it hits directly. Releases a smoke that functions like veils on the map but only your team can see through them. Good for sowing confusion and giving your team a chance to escape. Assists in dismantling pushes, building your own, and setting up for surprise ults. They never saw it coming.
Ability 3) Blammerang's Bite: When reloading the Blammerang, PS throws it forward like a boomerang. It flies in a tight loop and lands back in his hand. Any enemies caught in the flight path are hit with Spirit damage scaling off of how empty the magazine is and a bleed effect that scales off of how many heroes are caught in the flight path. Upgrades add shadow boomerangs that deal bonus spirit damage and increase the size of the hitbox. Part of the fun in designing builds around this is that it does more damage with a larger magazine upgrade but you end up using it less if you have to empty said larger mag. Blammerang in flight also retains the properties of bullets, specifically upgrades like toxic and shock bullets. This allows them to become a massive spreader of bullet based debuffs against ganged up groups. Youch!
Ult) KER-POW: Character tosses down an impact pad that stores kinetic energy. Enemies standing on the pad when it goes off are stunned and thrown straight up into the air while being dealt spirit damage. Meant for setting up other ults and grouping up the enemy team for a massive Blammerang strike. Upgrades allow for faster activation, longer stun, and speed increases to reloads and heavy melee following activation. If an enemy hero dies within ten seconds of being hit by the pad a 60s Batman style music sting plays.
His play style would be a hit and run style burst damage dealer. He has high potential for insane damage, but he's built like a twig and relies on his cracked air movement. He hits hard and is hard to pin down. He certainly can't win fights against the entire enemy team, but it will certainly hurt. He can however pick them off when they least expect it, often while recovering from a push from your team. The enemy team should fear The Patron Saint swooping in out of nowhere and leaving them ill suited for team fights. After all, all villains quake before the might of a hero!
Interactions with other characters:
Ivy would be kinda weirded out by the costume but would probably appreciate someone fighting against organized crime in her city.
Mcginnis would either recognize him or recognize the tech as stolen from Fairfax. Either way, she would be pissed.
Vyper would probably treat him like a goody two shoes, and she'd be right.
Drifter would be unusually apprehensive about trying to kill him, he's never encountered an honest to god superhero before.
Paige would immediately recognize his persona and probably geek out for a second before realizing he's a geek himself.
The grounded realist characters would probably treat him with disdain.
And he would probably be the only character that Lash thinks is cooler than him. He would never outright admit it though.
I hope you guys like this concept and would love to hear your thoughts on it!
