A Fates Tale:
The esteemed Bear family had it all — a beautiful mansion on a hundred-acre woodland plot, a booming porridge industry, and all the tailor-made creature comforts one could ever want. The only thing they didn't have was the Locke family out of the picture, and that was about to become a problem.
When the starting pistol of the 30th annual Alps Hunt rang throughout the air, neither Grizwold nor Goldie knew of stakes past bragging rights and a nice mantle piece. Behind closed doors, a deal between the Lockes and the Bears had been made to settle the feud once and for all — and it would be up to the heirs of the estates.
Unfortunately, Grizwold bagged only a modestly sized Yeti, and as the results came in and Goldie's hand was held up as the winner, all fell to ruin. In one year's time, the Locke family would waltz in and take everything from the Bear family.
"You must see the world, my boy," the patriarch of the Bear family spoke to his son as he sent him off for the new world. "And you must see to it that our fortune is restored."
Gun: The Bear Necessity
6 shots
Primary Fire is a wide and unfocused shotgun blast with massive damage falloff (12 meters and below is its effective range).
Secondary Fire (does ADS) is a precise slug that has a greater effective range (30 meters) but builds speed and damage the further the shot travels (up to a certain point).
Ability 1: Too Close!
Let out a roar and slam the ground, knocking enemies up and dealing spirit damage.
Ability 2: Too Far!
Toss a spring-loaded bear trap in an arc. Enemies that get near it take spirit damage and are stunned.
Ability 3: Too Mean!
Have a swig of Mama Bear Co. brand Porridge and heal. Gain a single stack every time you kill an enemy at long range or short range, with each stack increasing the heal's effectiveness.
Ability 4: Just Right!
Equip Papa's hunting pistol and take a shooter's stance, being unable to move. Upon firing a shot, the shot pierces through all walls and deals spirit damage to any target hit. For the first three seconds of this ability, enemies are highlighted to you and visible through walls.
Authors note
I had the idea for a character that has to pick an extreme of short range or long range to fight at, with a glaring weak side of mid-range fighting — I figured that it was no better way to convey the antithesis of a Goldilocks zone than with a bear! My biggest inspirations is of course Goldilocks and the Three Bears, classic Winnie the Pooh, Paddington, 1900s German hunters, and a gentle dopey fairytale vibe. I wanted to make his outfit look ill-fitting in both being too big and too short, and his gun (the revolving double barrel shotgun) convey the indecisiveness / polarizing view too. None of the numbers here should be taken seriously, as they were kind of thrown at the wall, but I figure it conveys the idea enough.
