golden egg seemed to start with 400 souls

I bought golden egg and checked the number 30 seconds after and it was already at around 400 souls, which doesn't seem right.

It's normal. If you sell an item, you get half the souls value back. Therefore, if you "cash in" the egg (Sell it), you get 400 souls back because it's a 800 souls item.
